Sadly , even if MLK were alive today, extreme racism would still be active... It's a state of mind birthed by our textbooks and tv shows... Racism only halts during times of American tragedy or some type of sporting event... It can't stop, won't stop.... so it's a dead issue... It's decreased considerably over the decades as far as seeing it in the public eye... But it's gonna exist as long as our youth continue to learn about American History... For every lesson taught about equality for humanity , there's an equal lesson taught of being proud to be this or that race/culture..... It starts as kids... Our educational system is an unspoken enabler of these biases.... Dwell on that!!!!!

I'm guessing because their mothers raised them well and they were just drinkin' in a honky tonk, kickin' hippies' asses and raisin' hell.

No it isn't, it would emerge regardless, whenever there is differences. People note differences assigned to different groups and make generalizations.... people do it based on virtually everything.

Probably the best post. I can respect a man that can looks at himself in the mirror and realizes that the African American society as a whole is a step behind and must take ownership of that fact.

Yes the minorities in general have less of an opportunity than the rich white folks living the the suburbs however it seems to me that asians, indians, and even as of late mexicans have been doing more with their opportunities than the blacks. I think this whole hip hop ghetto nonsense has been a huge detriment to the african american society.

Racism will always exist. It's part of human nature to divide into groups. We all have racist tendencies. I firmly believe that. You ever notice how people who are obviously racist can never admit to being a racist?

It's the devil in all of us. I think the harvard study on race was quite revealing. If you really want to see for yourself try taking some of the tests:

    https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/demo/selectatest.html

I think self-awareness is key to ending discrimination. It's a battle that is never-ending though and requires constant vigilance.

Something like that, and not the only time that happened. It's amazing what people will decide deserves hatred and disdain. Skin color, ethnicity, religion, something as nonsensical as long hair. And skin color can be a b****. Some Indians I've met when in that country were as black as any Black American, and could have been European, aside from the skin tone. Take one of those people and have them walk down Main Street in a small town in Alabama, and there are apt to be some confused people, or I should say some confused bigots. It's all so stupid, but to pretend that bigotry doesn't exist, that it's been "conquered," that all that is "in the past" is to be blind to reality. We celebrate Dr. King because he took words and organization and beat the hell out of racism in America, but were Dr. King alive today, he'd still be working, because the job isn't over, and the rest of the wall still needs to go.

Who the hell are you to stereotype everybody in small town Alabama? Do you believe you are their moral superior?

Cleverly disguised attempt to show everybody that you're a good little soldier and not racist. Do you feel the need to trumpet your own virtues to everybody here to prove something?
