Lowry is better than PER suggests

There's a thread in DISH about PER, and I know Lowry is around the top of the PER ranking for now. PER is great overall stat, but it often overlooks good defense because there's no stat about that This leads me to believe the true value of Lowry is better than PER suggests.

I watched closely every minute of Rocket's games this season, and I noticed an interesting thing. Whenever Lowry/Parson close out and contest a shot, they did it in a hard yet effective way so that the shots are most likely missed. Whenever Martin/Bud/Scola do that, there's just not enough pressure for whatever reason. This 'close out and contest shots' thing is not in stat, but is huge for the team(easily 10 points through a game).

Also when Lowry is defending or help defending somebody, he can body up or strip the ball hard. In the Memphis game, they had a 3 on 1 fastbreak at Lowry, and he positioned so well to disrupt their offense and make them miss the shot. He's also one of the top guys taking charges in the past. All these things don't show up in the stat sheet as well.

To be frank, his desire to be better and work ethic is unimaginable. Last game he's not only shooting great before fatigure checks in, but also shows a variety of moves shooting off dribble. Many predicted his 3 point percentage will be down, but he's actually becoming a more consistent and clutch shooter.

Considering his age, contract, rate of improvement, no potential health issue and this perceived better than PER true value(which should put him close to top 5 in the league for now), I wouldn't trade him for anyone not named Lebron, Rose or DH.

Wade is 30 and battling with injury, Bynum, CP3 and Amare have potential health issues, Love, Joe Johnson and Camelon don't play good defense, Kobe/Manu/Duncan are aging... The world changes fast and our current starting 5 are all 'steals' by Morey. We should be patient with our GM and be more optimistic about Morrison, Ppat...

PER for some players is a meaningless measurement. However you are completely overvaluing Lowry in my opinion if you would not trade him for guys like Chris Paul, or Dwayne Wade.

If only female referees could catch his chest passes, he would be perfect.

    PER is overrated...

    Lowry is overrated...

Im guilty as well as all rockets fans for overhyping him... we are so superstar starved were ready to announce lowry as the best thing since sliced bread...

Look how much we LOVE parsons after a few games and a couple highlight dunks...

I completly believe lowry is a top 5 PG in this league...But hes not a top 10 player in the league...

To say you wouldnt trade him for a wade or durant or anyother superstar top 10 player is Overhyping him....

I LOVE guys play and effort on both sides and his determination to not lose... I definately do NOT wanna see him traded...

But for a dwight type player im sure morey would easily let him go... and i would be happier for it...

Your analysis is meaningless if you don't included a similar one for everyone else.

So it was a chest pass that turned into a facial bounce pass?

    No, for Rudy Gay.

He's about to show the world he's on Durant's level.
