I would let Mario go and Sign an WR during free agency cause their going to be a lot of good ones out there. Anyone agree?
I'll tell you what I would NOT do -- put Brooks Reed on the bench. Sorry, Mario -- you ain't worth huge money -- use that money for a replacement for Cream and Jacoby
This is a tough one for me. The Texans desperately need a WR to help out Andre and there are some good ones up for free agency. On the other hand, Mario is an elite level pass rusher and those can be hard to come by. When forced to choose, I'd say go for a WR in free agency. Mario is a great player, but the defense proved that they could play at a high level without him. Brooks Reed really came along this season and the Texans have depth in the front seven. You can't really say the same about the receiving corps.
Without Andre the Texans have the worst recievers in the NFL Without Mario the Texans have the #2 defense in the NFL Sign a Reciever
That is tough. With Wade likely leaving it would be great to bolster the D. With Mario it could be a 2001 Ravens type of team. It would be a huge commitment though.
Foster is due for a payday. As tough as it is, Texans should let Mario walk, sign a CB (are any good ones available?) and draft Michael Floyd out of ND in the 1st round.
These are some that are scheduled to become free agents: W. Welker M. Wallace (restricted) D. Bowe M. Colston D. Jackson V. Jackson R. Wayne L. Robinson That's a pretty nice crop.
Reggie Wayne, Wes Welker, Vincent Jackson, DeSean Jackson, Dwayne Bowe, Marques Colston, Stevie Johnson, Brandon Lloyd, Robert Meacham and Mario Manningham. The other issue that the Texans might run into if they try to sign one of these guys is that a good number of them are all but locks to stay put. I seriously doubt Wayne, Welker and DeSean Jackson go anywhere. I also would doubt that Stevie Johnson leaves. The Bills don't have a lot of big contracts, so they have money to spend. I don't think they let him end up in another uniform. Another thing to think about might be re-signing Mario and finding money elsewhere to sign a WR in the next tier of receivers. Guys like Jerome Simpson, Roscoe Parrish, Eddie Royal, Pierre Garcon and Steve Smith (PHI) are available. One of those guys along with a high draft pick at the position might allow the Texans to have their cake and eat it too.
Yeah some of these WR might stay but after us doing so well this year. That helps us because they would want to come over here and play. With not signing Mario we will have to cash money to dish out which helps big time also. Based on the draft we been pretty good on picking defense players ( Not K. Jackson lol) why not do that again and try to get a WR in the free agency (still get an WR in the draft though in the early rounds) Our Defence is good enough to win a superbowl..we just need another weapon to throw it too. Having weapons in this league gets you in the playoffs and once your in..you have a chance to win it all.
Definitely grab a WR. Mario's a good player, but not at the price we'd have to pay him for next season.
I was watching some of Mario's highlights from earlier in the year... the guy is a menace. Nobody on the Texans commands as much attention as Mario Williams. I'd take him over a CB2 and FA WR. But I don't think it would be a realistic possibility.
I'm torn by this but I think it's time to let Mario walk. With him, I'm positive this is the #1 defense in the NFL. Without him, it's a top 5 and certainly more than enough to win the AFC South again. A WR2, re-signing Foster, CB depth, DL depth, and a new kicker are priorities. Brooks Reed is a starter in the NFL and they can draft his backup.
Texans will use their first pick to draft their future WR1. I don't think that the Texans will spend their big coin in FA on a WR. Resigning Mario Williams is a separate issue.
Those receivers are gonna command a decent price. Draft a WR. Sign a new kicker. Re-sign Foster and Mario. Cut some dead-weight off the roster. Call it a day.
Touching on the FA WR's Brandon Lloyd is a under the radar beast of a WR that we can get at jacoby's price range maybe a little more. He produced in denver and with the rams, who sucked this year btw. He makes some unbelievable catches and knows how to get open
I would not let anyone just walk. Try and work out a draft day trade or something but we need to get something for him. CB depth is needed but i'm almost tire of seeing them draft CB's. We do need to draft a WR or two.
