I have heard many accounts most expressing the fact that if that Gasol trade would have went down we would have signed Nene. Now all of a sudden there are many folks out there claiming that it would have never happened and that Denver offered more money than we could have? Can one of the capologists discuss our offer versus denver and provide any insight as to whether Nene was a real possibility ? Or you can just flame me for bringing this up. lol
I am one who believes he would have never signed here because Denver would have offered and did offer more guaranteed money then we could have offered even by amnestying Thabeet. DD
The more it is brought up, the more painful it is to think about. Ugh... Lowry with Nene/Pau= Scary...
Yeah, that's how it looks to me also. And why assume Morey would have been able to convince Nene to take less money to leave the franchise he's been with his entire career? That doesn't make sense.
Maybe im wrong, I'm not as versed as Bima Thug or anything... but I assume since Nene was currently with Denver, they have 'Bird rights' or whatever, so they can offer more than any other team.... I think its setup so a team can retain its own players - hence so many sign n trades to capitalize on the ability to offer a more lucrative contract....
Maybe Morey was telling him that the Rockets would be his team; more focus on him? As it is now Nuggets have no central superstar. just a thought.
Agreed. For me that whole trade scenario was a package deal in the sense that if Nene wasn't comin to Houston I wouldn't be so enamored with the trade. Without Nene just having Gasol would have made us better but not by much and in the end we wouldn't have gotten any younger.
With the Gasol trade + amnesting Thabeet I think that we had enough cap space to make him the same offer he received from Denver plus also try to retain Chuck Hayes. The offer for Nene wasn't in fact that big, I did believe he would end up getting more money.
well the ipad2 wasn't out then was it? If they could have waived the season.. the ipad3 might have been out next season and just might have been enough to have swayed Nene over to our side.
I guess we would have kept Lin, having a roster spot for him. I think it was explained in the past that Nene was waiting for the Rockets and the Nets to make his decision. He said he wanted to play next to a center -and it is why Mozgov is starting now- and it's said that he preferred to leave Denver. He was expecting almost a max offer from NJ, but they chose to try it hard with Dwight Howard (Howard + Nene was not compatible because that trade meant Turkoglu, and that matter meant no cap space for Nene). Then Houston with Pau + a similar offer to the one he ended getting, it was apparently his next option.
For someone that watched Chuck Hayes, it seems like you would have the ability to see impact beyond the stat sheet. (Nene has been ranked 18 & 42 overall in his last two years in fantasy basketball, btw...)
never cared about him (overrated) or Gasol (old and career is going downhill) we need fresh meat, newcomers, stars...it's time
Good point. Yeah, but much more likely he was just saying that to get Denver to up their offer. It happens all the time.
Denver offered 13 million a year stactic over five years. We could of offerred 15, 16, 17, 18 for for 4. Denvers is more guaranteed, ours allows for an extra contract year.
