Here's the box score for that game: http://espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=300411013 I'd hardly call that making Kobe his lapdog.

Look I don't want to be the one undermining Batum because I do think he is a solid player, BUT you can't compare what he does in Europe to what he can do in the NBA, a player with his talent is going to look McGrady-esque over there. Does he have the potential? Yes he can shut me up, but at this point in time I don't see him becoming a star.

I never claimed he would be a star. I see him as the 23yo to lock up as a Lowry's backcourt running mate for the next several years as opposed to the 26yo Lee who hasn't shaken off his choker tag and still hasn't proven he can be consistent.

Then we're on the same page.

I do think their asking price would be pretty high, they had made him untouchable in the past so they probably still over-value him. They also did that with Rudy only to relent in the end so I'll have to wait and see. If you asked me right now, I'm thinking they're going to cave and give him the extension.

I took a look at the box score for that game -- all things considered, Batum dominated Kobe in that game to the point where the video's claims are fairly warranted.

Kobe shot like 35%, only had a few free throw attempts and did not get his teammates involved (2 assists). Now, maybe he was injured or something in the game and there are mitigating circumstances the video does not cover, but Kobe putting up those types of numbers means that a huge percentage of the Lakers possessions are going to be wasted, and that the chance of the opposing team to beat them is going to greatly increase.

All that said, I think of Batum as a star player about the same as you do. I really like him, and I'd love to have him at the two instead of Martin if given the choice, but I wouldn't give him a huge deal or plan the off-season around acquiring him.

He had an all world game tonight for sure and if he played like this all the time he would be a max player. I would need to see this from him a lot more before I would be convinced in his game. For the season leading up to tonight he was averaging 10 points a game on 39% shooting from the feild.

I am pretty sure Batum was untouchable even the last few years, and he is probably even more so right now.

    1. If you are going to propose trades please do so in the Random Trade forum...Whoa what a idea.

    2. If you are going to propose trades, remember that the trade has to be something the OTHER TEAM WILL DO!! This is not NBA 2K12 or something in which you can do unfair trades, and not every team has a Kahn or a Isaiah as a GM.

I like the idea of Batum at the 2. Don't know how we could acquire him though.

He did a commendable job on Kobe, if you want to call it dominant I'm going to let you get away with it. But what did he do at the other end? Nada, hence me not considering it making Kobe his lapdog as he did with Chase tonight.

It was the easiest 29 points I've ever seen. It was disgusting watching him shoot so open time after time, we didn't (Chase did not) make the adjustments and he made us pay big. All-world? Without him this game was probably a blow out but personally, I'd like to see him sweat a little bit more before calling it that kind of performance.

It's rebuilding time folks. Give them Martin and bud twill. Lowry is the only person I'm concerned of keeping from this season

Agreed completely -- however, that was two years ago, and his offense has developed a lot since then (he was very raw coming into the NBA) and is still developing.

Blazers can't afford to let Batum get away because Gerald Wallace will be unrestricted after the season. But considering their dysfunctional ownership situation, anything can happen.

Perfect situation for Morey. Wallace would consider opting out of his final year if he could sign a long-term deal with the Trailblazers; however, if we can offer a deal to Wallace then they may have to choose between Batum and Wallace. We could also make an offer for Batum which means they either have to match the Batum offer or sign Wallace to a long-term deal. What are the chances they try to retain both? Frankly, I'd rather have Wallace on our team.

did anyone else remember when we drafted this kid, and traded him away to Portland. Morey is such an awesome gm who can read prospects like the back of his hand:p

You guys do know that we drafted Nicolas Batum in the 2006 NBA Draft, right?

I thought it was the 2008 draft. We ended trading that pick for Darrell Arthur, then turned around and traded him for Donte Greene and a second round pick. Then we parlayed Greene for Ron Artest.

Hmm. Well, I think the Rockets FO only picks up players from the 2009 draft so that rules Batum out then.

I'm a bit fearful in thinking that he'd be something like Ariza 2.0 - great defender, but given more responsibility offensively, just doesn't have the toolset to handle it.
