I feel bad for Kenny. People forget how well he ran the offense and was so clutch.
the first several years we got him, he was awesome.

If you're going to pull the "at that point in time" card, then there's no way Kenny Smith beats out Kyle Lowry. The 93-94 Kenny Smith was not an all-star.

"Ran the offense" as in dribble it up and dump it to Hakeem and wait for the wide open shot or pass it around the key to the person that is open?

Swap Howard for Dalembert and we would be among the favorites for the championship this year too.

That was pretty bad. I don't mean to be rude, but was this actually printed in the Houston Press? Because if so ... yikes.

I just don't even understand the subject matter. Why try and compare this year's team to the '93-94 squad? It's a no-win task.

    Excellent analysis. Totally agree.

Kenny Smith over Kyle Lowry, that's just stupid.
KL is so much better I can't even begin to imagine how anybody could compare the two. Did we forget how Kenny was afraid to even drive the lane let alone go down the lane all out like Kyle. Kenny could shot the 3 well when everbody dropped down on Dream.

I would take Horry for sure and so far I would take Parsons over Bull.

Of course you would take Horry

Horry McGrady Yao Battier and whoever the PG is - a very good chance to advance to the Finals

He ran it so well that Rudy T felt like he needed Scottie Brooks to run it in the fourth quarters of games.

I liked Kenny but the but there is a bit of revisionist history going on here. When did he ever average 20 points (or even that close) or make an all star team?

Horry was so much better than Chase, its not even funny even when he was slacking off. Horry was a better rebounder, ball handler, and defensively it was night and day. The only reason we complained about Horry was because he took games off.

Horry in his second season was a 10pt 5.5rb 2.5 assist guy while playing very good defense when he felt like it.

Bud last year averaged 10 pts 3.5rb and 1.5 assists and can't play defense to save his family.

Parsons versus Horry would have been a better comparison. Parsons reminds me a lot of a young Horry in skill level and how he plays the game. Luckily Parson has a better motor. Lets also hope Parson brings the clutchness he exhibited at Florida to Houston.

I think Jeff was comparing the rookie Robert Horry to his projection of what Chase Budinger would be this year.

Olajuwon is like the SUPER, CANNOT MAKE IT ANY CLEARER X-Factor.

Obviously, if you take him away from that team, you have a team pretty similar to this year's Rockets, if not worse. Though, the 93-94 team had better players over there careers, by far.

Houston would've been near unbeatable, if they had Thorpe (or Drexler) with Cassell, Horry, Smith, Elie, Mad Max, and Olajuwon, all in their prime years. Our current Rockets squad might be too early to tell, but the best they could be is a borderline playoff team.

    How fast we forget

    17.7 points

    7 assists
    52% shooting

Lowry's best season is now, where he's the best player on the team. Kenny has to play with Dream/OT/Vernon who score a majority of the points

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/l/lowryky01.html
    16.2 points
    9.4 assists
    43% shooting

A small forward from an SEC school that wears number 25..?

Not this season, but I like where this is going.

Dude the Rockets won like 11 in a row with Larry Smith with as our center when Dream was out with that eye injury by Cartwright

Am I the only person who remembers this season?

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/HOU/1991_games.html

Larry Smith started 28 games and the Rockets won a bunch of games as him as the starter

here's a good article after we beat
    http://articles.latimes.com/1991-03-04/sports/sp-116_1_larry-smith

"The only thing mean about Larry Smith is the way he plays," his coach, Don Chaney, said after Smith's 22 rebounds muscled aside the Lakers, 104-95, Sunday at the Forum.

"No, I'm not mean," agreed Mr. Mean.

Cards are overturned every time Larry Smith claims a rebound, which keeps the "R" card-turners as busy as New Yorkers charting Doc Gooden's "Ks." Five nights in the short month of February, Mr. Mean got 20 or more. And the more boards he got, the less everybody missed Akeem Olajuwon.

"I guess they see me as just a hard-workin' workingman," Smith says, gratefully.

For now he is the starting Rocket center, even though at 6-foot-8 he is shorter than a Laker guard. Mr. Mean had more rebounds Sunday than the Laker starting front line--Vlade Divac (eight), James Worthy (10) and Mychal Thompson (three)--had combined.

"When he doesn't get 20 rebounds, Larry Smith considers it a bad night," Chaney said.

For the time being, Chaney opens the game with Olajuwon on the bench. Some people in Houston prefer it this way. Others can't wait for Akeem's damaged eye to be 20-20 again. He is the superhero whose fame is such that a Manchester Avenue memorabilia shop billed Sunday's anticipated battle at center on its marquee as "Akeem the Dream vs. the Serbo-Croatian Sensation!"

    ---
So when the YOFs started dissing Larry Smith cause he wasn't playing Yao long minutes, you can tell they aren't real Rockets fans.

If no one was guarding you, it would be easy to hit jumpers all day. Kyle Lowry gets Chuck Hayes, and Sam Dalembert to throw the ball into the post to.

If Kyle was playing with Hakeem, Kyle would more than likely put up better numbers, and Tiny Scott Brooks wouldn't be closing.
