I always wonder why Dwight is not shooting better from the line. His form looks good, unlike Shaq's used to be. If he can shoot 65% from the line he'd be unstoppable.
It's not that risky. Howard made 21 of 39 free throws. that's 54% from line, on 20 potential baskets. he shoots 59% from the floor. that would have been 12-20 from the floor, or 24 points, and that's not including any times where he gets fouled and makes the bucket. It's a sound strategy and if Howard wants it to stop, he should spend his off seasons shooting free throws until he figures out how to hit them regularly. Howard is frustrating to watch because his potential is so much higher than what he produces. If he ever developed a reliable 10-12 foot jumper and taught himself how to make free throws, he'd be unstoppable. Instead he comes back every year with the same limited post game(little baby hook and the bull rush maneuver) and the inability to make free throws. He's a poor man's Shaq, and it's mind boggling to think how both players never improved their weaknesses when it would have elevated their place in history within the game. Shaq was an all time great, but if ever learned how to make a short face up jumper and hit at least 70% of his free throws, he goes down as the best center of all time.
Disagree, it didn't work, won't work, and has never worked over long stretches of time in any game, unless the hacked player makes far less that 50% of his free throws. Mark Jackson was a fine player with great passing instincts and court vision, but he is a moron and I would not want him as coach. Maybe he can motivate, and maybe he can teach up point guards. If you hear him in the huddles on TV it is one cliche after another. The X's and O's are not his strength.
