Monta >>>>>> than KMart by a lots. For one reason too -- he can score in crunch time. We don't have that type of player. He's a go to guy when you need one. Throw in Jordan Hill and/or T-Will and call it a day.
Id swap KM for ellis straight up (maybe add some junk... flynn, thabeet, etc..) but I doubt GS would go for it... theyd prob want a first round pick in addition (albeit a late one)... They make roughly the same (11M range). You lose about 4" with Ellis...but hes younger and more athletic...
Monta > nerfed Kmart I didn't realize how much Martin depended on the free throws. Without his 8-10 trips to the line, he is a worse korver.
Monta would solve so many problems! K-mart got hosed by the rule change and isn't physical enough to take over. Monta is a baller. How much do we have to give? Monta is better than most of the 2012 FA IMO.
Agreed. Not sure how the offense would flow with him though. He seems like he is a poor teammate and a thug. As much as I like his skill set and ability to score (and at least get a couple of steals) I am not sure how he would affect this team. My gut says it would be negative but I'd like to see what happens since we are not going to win much this year with the current roster anyway. P.G. - Kyle Lowry (6-0) S.G. - Monta Ellis (6-3) S.F. - Chandler Parsons (6-9) P.F. - Luis Scola (6-9) ..C. - Sam Dalembert (6-11) Frankly, I don't see that team winning a whole lot more as I don't think that he brings the level of defense that we need.
Um, what? Monta Ellis has been an inefficient volume shooter for several seasons now. So far this year he's shot a terrible 0.505 TS%, with an awful 14.5% turnover rate as the primary ball handler. Kevin Martin has been a model of efficiency for almost his entire career. Literally one of the most efficient scoring guards, or even players in the league. He's been off lately, but his 0.541 TS% so far is decent, and his turnover rate of just 8.3% is very low. He's still been much more efficient than Ellis, even with his ridiculously high FTA numbers being taken away.
Pass. No need for a one-dimensional, 6-foot-1 guard. We already have enough guys who can score but are allergic to defense. No need to add another one.
One is a one-dimensional, 6-foot-7 small forward allergic to defense and passing. The other is a one-dimensional, 6-foot-1 combo guards allergic to defense whose improved his passing only incrementally but is so iso-heavy. Both actually fit this team that loves offense and hates defense. That's not a good thing.
You guys do reallize we play more ISO ball than anything else under McHale, right? It is ISO Lowry for the majority of the time. DD
monta is 6-3 he has more rebounds than martin more assist than martin more steals than martin plays better defense than martin and actually shows up in the 4th quarter.
If the rockets can get monta ellis it would be great for them. As you can see how well curry and ellis play together, lowry and ellis might play just as well and maybe better. Also to get ellis, we'll prolly have to give up martin, and im fine with that because ellis plays much better defense and can also pass the rock.
I completely agree with you pointing out the statistical factual evidence. That said, a factor many people are considering, rightly, is the roles asked of these players, given their skill-set. Of course Kevin Martin has a lower turnover rate. he rarely handles the ball. he's also averaging almost 4 assists per 36 minutes less a game than monta, and has consistently averaged less. Monta is also more capable of creating his own shot. Martin isn't inept at this, but isn't as good, especially in crunch time. According to 82games.com, for example, last season, one of Martin's best, he wasn't nearly as good as Ellis in crunch-time, which they define as 4th quarter or overtime, less than 5 minutes left, neither team ahead by more than 5 points. They show Kevin's FG % dropping to 38% and his 3 point % dropping to 23% in these situations. He still got to the line a bit, and still beats Ellis in this category, but otherwise Ellis blows him away in what they define as crunch time. http://www.82games.com/1011/CSORT11.HTM So you're definitely right. But each player is limited, and in a grass is always greener kind of way, people are tiring of Martin's dependency on free throws, crunch time disappearing act and complete lack of defense (and, frankly, even defensive effort), and would be happy to trade that for a less efficient scorer, but one with other strengths.
I like Monta Ellis a lot. This guy is a crazy score who can score from anywhere. So much better and younger than martin I say give up martin + Hill + Flynn +Bud for Monta Ellis +Nate robinson
Saying he's a better defender or passer than Martin isn't saying much at all. And of course he gets more assists, Ellis a freakin' point guard. I would sure damn hope so. I'm not saying I would be opposed to an Ellis for Martin trade. Not at all. I hate Martin's game this year. But I'm just saying it would not be a significant upgrade where it matters most - getting wins.
Monta is a lot more valuable as a player than Kevin Martin if they offered us a deal, then you jump at it...so fast.....he is the kind of elite level talent we need to take a risk on...not guys like TWill who are athletic but crap on the floor. This guy is an NBA stud, he has produced well on an NBA level. If we have to give up some of our chaffe to make it work then fine, we need to clear some deadwood anyway. Kmart Twill Flynn For Ellis..and a pick.... And if we can somehow sneak in Biedrens then HELL YEAH ! DD

do it ellis can score in the clutch and he doesn't rely on free throws like martin. He has more handles and is more explosive. I think he plays better defense too.
