No one has a solution. Too many democrats deny there's a problem. If Republicans win the whitehouse in 2016 they'll deny the problem then -- and democrats will suddenly see it as paramount.

Can you please point out those Democrats that deny there is a problem with mounting debt?

    Thanks

Except that Obama, Boehner and Reid had nearly reached a comprehensive agreement on all of these (search for "Grand Compromise") during the debt ceiling debate until the tea party came in and vetoed it. It was very close to being real. No offense, but I don't think you have any idea what you're actually talking about. You just repeat the nonsensical talking points you hear from crazy people.

Seems Boehner has had enough of the tea party's craziness.

John Boehner May Rebuff Tea Party In Upcoming Payroll Tax Cut Fight

WASHINGTON--House Speaker John Boehner, hoping to spare fellow Republicans a second embarrassing defeat over payroll tax cuts, is prepared to navigate around rebellious Tea Party-aligned lawmakers to get a deal, according to congressional aides.

Republicans in the House of Representatives got a public drubbing from critics within and outside the party in December for initially refusing to approve a Senate plan to extend the tax break for 160 million Americans through February.

The party of lower taxes was left on the defensive, countering a barrage of criticism that its unwillingness to compromise threatened an effective tax hike on workers, potentially damaging the fragile economic recovery.

Now, with Democratic and Republican negotiators preparing for a new round of talks in the coming days to extend the payroll tax cut for the rest of the year, Republican leaders are anxious to move quickly to get a deal, aides said.

Party leaders fear another battle could distract from the more important task at hand - ousting President Barack Obama from the White House and winning majority control of the Senate in the November elections. They also want to neutralize an issue that Democrats already are using to their advantage in the presidential and congressional campaigns.

"I think Boehner will seek a more accommodating approach to get a good percentage of Democrats to vote for it - even if it costs him a lot of House Republican freshmen," one House Republican leadership aide told Reuters.

you goin' to straighten 'em out mark?

Does this have to always be an 'us' vs 'them' thing?

Can you point me to a democrat that has come out strongly against debt or deficits lately? Or even recognized the magnitude deficits without making it a partisan attack.

(and if you're looking for names -- start with SamF, add classic, cohetepete, yallmean......and bring in rhad for questioning too (not because he's necessarily guilty, but I think he'd like the interrogation).

I don't honestly know what I need to be questioned about, but the latter half of that statement made me literally LOL.

Then it seems like you agree that a stimulus does help fix the economy. Would you also agree that it's better to borrow the money to cover for a stimulus rather than...

    1) Significantly raising taxes (and I mean put them at 75% levels like post-WWII era)
    2) Printing more money
    3) Going to war

    ?

bnb I know you know the President has been trying for years to work with the republican party to rein in spending and debt. Shall I post the hundreds of utubes and speeches in the last year where he acknowledges the problem and admonishes members of congress for doing nothing?

As opposed to trusting whom? fascists? corporate shills? austere Austrians?

Seeing as how he is obstructed on every point by The House and is limited to just what the Treasury can do, A. I don't know how you asses blame to President and B. We do seem to have averted disaster. Other than that solid positive the relative success or lack of it is just a subjective evaluation.

How so? In 2008, that absolutely was the bar thanks to 8 years of deregulation and lack of oversight. (how soon we forget). The economy was on it's knees and now it has begun to crawl. Not running at this point is not a DISASTER.

But I say we go ahead and sell Alaska to Canada. They can sell all the oil to China to pay us so we can pay China, all a net wash.

    Who ? Name one...

To anticipate your response a bit - understanding the situation in a more nuanced sophisticated way that has better empirical and theoretical foundation, isn't really "denial" - in fact it's the opposite.

mark, I have ZERO confidence that any of the key republicans currently running would have done a better job then the president. I do think the staggering deficit numbers and debt levels will be a significant economic hindrance going forward -- for the US and for those who rely on the US. I think the issue has been largely ignored and continues to be ignored. I'm not so interested in who has the best utubes or speeches...

    the wagons are circled!

    Thumbs

Fortunately the only thing you have to fear is fear itself.
You are either putting forward conservative talking points knowingly for whatever reason or needlessly worrying.

Once the economy starts growing taxes start flowing, and government expenditures go down. The economy can grow its way out of the debt as it has done before. A return to taxations of the glorious 50 and 60's along with some Keynesian spending and all will be well.

Try not to watch Fox so much. It will be literally bad for your health to be scared needlessly.
