Younger? TWill is 24, Budinger is 23. This is TWill's 3rd season, and only the 2nd for Budinger. This isn't Battier using his wiley veteran tricks to get court-time at the expense of some young buck. Budinger is the young buck and he's earned a chance to go on the floor to show what he can do over the more veteran (and physically gifted) Williams. Williams had the inside track for the starting SF spot -- a coach who was giving him a clean slate, a GM who wants him to suceed, more athleticism, a higher salary, and competitors who are younger and less experienced and picked much later in the draft. And he still got beat. By both of them. At least he's higher on the depth chart than Morris. Right now anyway.
Pennies on the dollar? We got Goran Dragic in that exchange. The Dragon is a far better PG and he also happens to be taller and as good a shooter/scorer as Brooks ... or better.
well our back-up two guard has been injured and you have been playing our back up point guard as a SG on the same court with Lowry - you have used a 9 man rotation the last few games with Lee out where if he has done nothing wrong Terrence should be playing those minutes. Dragic is doing no better in the position T-Will really should be playing.
Budinger is in his third year also. I think McHale currently has Budinger over T-Will for now as a courtesy, because Budinger has proven to be a productive player in the past. But if Bud doesn’t start producing again pretty soon, I think T-Will will get his chance. While T-Will isn’t the most polished player, I think he’d still contribute more than what Bud has been…
If T-Will thinks he's been great he's gotta take the blinders off. Great compared to Budinger yes, but dude has a long way to go. I feel bad he's not getting minutes but if he had even half the motor of Parsons he'd be getting them.
They are both 3rd year players, but I was talking about in playing younger players on the roster in general. Twill and Bud are both similar in age, but I cited more specific reasons, i.e. Budinger's poor defense and shooting slump for reasons to give Twill some more playing time over Bud. I understand it has only been 9 games into the season and we all hope that Bud gets to be more productive in some games, however, I don't see Bud providing much to this team as currently constructed. I think Twill has better upside on defense, and as I said earlier, Bud isn't getting all of those backcut layups and easy shot opportunities that him and Kmart got in the old Adelman offense. I think Twill dribble penetrates and passes at a much higher level as of now, and those are characteristics of players we need to see on the court. Apart from lowry, none of the other starters drive to the hoop. Unfortunately, due to Twill's low bball IQ he at times drives to the hoop and is unaware of what to do (shoot or pass) and makes some risky passes when you would much rather him shoot the ball. However, as I said earlier, the only way he can get more comfortable in that regard is to see more minutes on the court. Obviously this is just my opinion in contrast to yours.
I'm impressed with McHale's willingness to tinker with the starting lineup. Our improved D with Parsons and the Bear in there has been big. I like Luis, Kevin, and Chase, a lot, but maybe they could be packaged for something of value? Anyway, this thread is about TWill, so how about we trot out a lineup of Kyle, TWill, Parsons, Patterson, and Dalembert? Dragic, Lee, Morris, Adrien, and Hill could be shown they have a chance to crack the starting unit, if they'll just hustle their arises off.
Goran did a good job defending Tony. If we played Terrence, Kyle had to guarded Tony, and he wouldn't have as much as a impact in the offensive end.
My mistake, but the larger argument still stands. I'm not saying I think this or that guy should start over T-Will. I get annoyed by the T-Will boosters who aren't seeing what is plainly obvious. For all the talent and athleticism and upside he allegedly has, he's been benched by all 3 of his NBA coaches now. He has a big weakness in his game -- his decision-making -- that makes him a liability on the court. If he can't do the right things on the court, it doesn't matter how well he shoots or how well he defends. He won't play.
This IS our second unit, but the flying rooster plays instead of T-Will. If the rooster doesn't start partying, I'm going to lose my mind. Most frustrating player to watch on the Rockets.
So, you're going to DNP Coaches Decision Bud and leave Morris to rot in the NBDL. How will McHale explain the to Bud and Morris..."sorry guys, I need to play the headcase so he can work out his issues on the court. You understand, right?" And you are also forgetting that Martin and Lee minutes must add up to more than 48. Lee will play SF minutes....he's our best option there for the 2nd unit.
IMO... Defense: Chase >> average team defense... good decision making as a defender... two years experience of guarding the scoring wing... lack of explosive and strength... I view him as an average perimeter defender and a poor post defender as a wing... Terrence >> below average team defense... poor decision making... lack of experience as a defender... good explosive and strength... I view him as a below average perimeter defender and a below average post defender as a wing... Offense: Chase >> good shoot selection... average vision... good spacing... good movement off the ball... lack of aggressiveness to the rim... inconsistent shooting rate... lack of explosive and dribble skill to break down the opponent defense... Terrence >> poor shoot selection... poor vision... poor spacing... lack of movement off the ball... lack of aggressiveness overall (but more aggressive to the rim when compared with bud)... good explosive and basic dribble skill to break down the opponent defense...
No, I would have Bud starting. Parsons can cycle out 4 with PPatt, and Morris can cycle the 3 with TWill when he gets a little bit better.
