    unrealistic and arrogant.

no, i do think we have the right to act in our own self-interests, just like every other country. but not to the extent of preemptively attacking another country. furthermore, i believe that not bombing iran is acting in our self-interest as doing what you advocate would be a disaster that could lead us into WWIII.

so you are in college working on a degree in history? good for you - i have a degree in history. but you dont need one to realize that history is not "irrelevant".

i can see how someone who believes history is "irrelevant" would say this, but imo its important to understand the "why". its important to recognize that our actions and meddling have brought us to where we are and maybe we should think about a different way. we have antagonized and threatened iran for a decade and want to bomb them when they try to act in their own self-interests.

your attitude reminds me of this bill hicks bit...

its not a problem worth going to war over. lots of counties do things we dont like and we dont go around bombing them into compliance.

i am actually 6'3'' on the dot! so by your standards i am indeed allowed to mock samuel for being a munchkin.

and samuel makes insults against peoples college education...why dont you have a problem w/ that?

college education insults don't really seem to work on the internet. First off I would have to know ones education, which I have no idea. I mean I guess you have some insider info into how educated he is but I find myself wondering is he GED educated or tech-school educated? And then really you would have to be a post-grad to have any room to talk and I mean masters degree or over really.

An ideal world is one where every country is a democracy ran by sane and rational people- everybody has nukes and everybody is deathly afraid and convinced that the other country will use nukes.

Perhaps we achieve peace through that. And have to push foreign policy through...

    DIPLOMACY?!?

And things get a bit more tense. I hope no one makes a mistake, folks.

    (headline)

Iran provokes U.S. ships after speed boats ‘harass' Americans as Obama warns them not to block oil from Persian Gulf

Tensions rising by the day, the Obama administration said Friday it is warning Iran through public and private channels against any action that threatens the flow of oil from the Persian Gulf. The Navy revealed that two U.S. ships in and near the Gulf were harassed by Iranian speedboats last week. Spokesmen were vague on what the U.S. would do about Iran's threat to block the strategic Strait of Hormuz, but military officials have been clear that the U.S. is readying for a possible naval clash. That prospect is the latest flashpoint with Iran, and one of the most serious.

Although it currently overshadows the threat of war over Iran's disputed nuclear program, perhaps beginning with an Israeli military strike on Iran's nuclear structure, both simmering crises raise the possibility of a shooting war this year, the Associated Press reports. 'We have to make sure we are ready for any situation and have all options on the table,' Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said, addressing a soldier's question Thursday about the overall risk of war with Iran. Navy officials said that in separate incidents on January 6, three Iranian speedboats — each armed with a mounted gun — briefly chased after a U.S. Navy ship just outside the Gulf near the Strait of Hormuz and a U.S. Coast Guard cutter in the northern Gulf. No shots were fired and the speedboats backed off.

They should have opened up on them with the 30mm chain gun just for being stupid enough to do this near the USS New Orleans. After the USS Cole I don't know why we put up it.

That's the danger. Don't think those American sailors don't think about the possibility. In favor of nothing happening, though, is that these are Iranian national armed forces motorboats, with crews unlikely to feel suicidal, although they could be from the private military of the theocracy. I haven't read one way or the other, and it's hard to tell from those images.

This kind of close encounter is NOT that uncommon, its just getting coverage because the tensions have risen but this isn't that big a deal. Also this water is right beside their land, yet you want to attack them because they are too close? Just imagine them with war ships near Bermuda, those ships would be taken out before they even got there. Crazy how many trigger happy folks there are in here.

Uhh....we (I) know exactly what your educational background is...

Heh...heh...heh. To be honest, I actually didn't know that you had posted this years ago when I figured you were probably a juco/cc guy, given your posting content/style, insofar as juco/co-co/some college tends to be a real Ron Paul hunting ground....and lo and behold...

Iran should realize that speed boat theatrics only hurt Obama's re-election chances, and a neoconservative President will look for any pretense to attack them.

a San Antonio class ship is a 700 foot long ship that displaces 25,000 tons. It is not exactly riding their coast. They came out to sea armed, found it, chased it down, and put themselves on a collision course with it. Why?

heh...heh...heh yourself samuel - you actually went and did a search on my posts to "prove" something that i directly told you in this very thread! to be honest, i actually didnt know that you were this dumb.

again, this post was made in this very thread - i was responding directly to you and it was not even one week ago.

    lol samuel...

and if you remember samuel, last may you demanded to know my educational background and i told you that i had discussed it at length and you should do a search. i gave you 48 hours and it took you almost 8 months. very poor work samuel. that kind of sloppy and lazy "research" may pass muster at university of phoenix online law, but it wont cut it here on clutchfans.

Do you know where the Persian Gulf is? The Iranians didn't exactly go "out to sea". These incidents were close to the Gulf's, Strait of Hormuz. Not that it really matters, but they did warn to keep navy ships out of that region. Imagine a Iranian Navy ship in the Gulf of Mexico....

^Everybody please observe the 37 year old teetotalling single male ron paul fan from Tomball trying to explain away his community college degree to strangers on the internet on a saturday night.

My advice, once again: Start drinking...heavily.

It ain't getting any better from here on out if this is where life has brought you at this point. Best thing to do is enjoy the ride ... I rated my 1302nd different beer style awhile ago in the last 6 years, so I can give you some tips if you need.
