LOL, I'm talking about Fox News, not Fox Sports, and they do more about Iran than just say its name in a funny way if you watch hannity ...etc.

    Progressives set your DVRs!!!!

In wake of misleading Palin footage, Fox News institutes ‘zero tolerance for on-screen errors.’

Effective immediately, there is zero tolerance for on-screen errors. Mistakes by any member of the show team that end up on air may result in immediate disciplinary action against those who played significant roles in the “mistake chain,” and those who supervise them. That may include warning letters to personnel files, suspensions, and other possible actions up to and including termination, and this will all obviously play a role in performance reviews. So we now face a great opportunity to review and improve on our workflow and quality control efforts. To make the most of that opportunity, effective immediately, Newsroom is going to “zero base” our newscast production. That means we will start by going to air with only the most essential, basic, and manageable elements. To share a key quote from today’s meeting: “It is more important to get it right, than it is to get it on.” We may then build up again slowly as deadlines and workloads allow so that we can be sure we can quality check everything before it makes air, and we never having to explain, retract, qualify or apologize again. Please know that jobs are on the line here. I can not stress that enough.

Good on Canada! Wish we had a law like this in America.

Fox Shut Out of Canada Because of a Law Against Lying During Newscasts

News Corp., the parent company of Fox News, was hoping to open a propaganda branch in Canada — called “Sun News TV” (or “Fox North”). It was hoping its crony in Ottawa, winger Prime Minister Stephen Harper, would be successful in overturning a law prohibiting lying on broadcast news. (Imagine that. There is a law in Canada prohibiting lying during newscasts.

As America’s middle class battles for its survival on the Wisconsin barricades – against various Koch Oil surrogates and the corporate toadies at Fox News – fans of enlightenment, democracy and justice can take comfort from a significant victory north of the Wisconsin border. Fox News will not be moving into Canada after all! The reason: Canadian regulators announced last week they would reject efforts by Canada’s right-wing Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, to repeal a law that forbids lying on broadcast news.

Canada’s Radio Act requires that “a licenser may not broadcast … any false or misleading news.” The provision has kept Fox News and right-wing talk radio out of Canada and helped make Canada a model for liberal democracy and freedom. As a result of that law, Canadians enjoy high quality news coverage, including the kind of foreign affairs and investigative journalism that flourished in this country before Ronald Reagan abolished the “Fairness Doctrine” in 1987.

The problem with this law in politics is that it is highly subjective. One mans lie is another mans truth - and this applies on BOTH sides of the political spectrum. Are they going to shut out Michael Moore as well as Glenn Beck?

I don't think Michael Moore or Glenn Beck would be allowed to have news programs under this law. Opinion programs? Sure. This law applies specifically to news broadcasts, though.

Here is one from July/August. The story is, Ron Paul won both the 2010 and 2011 CPAC nominations..... in 2010 he received boo's, in 2011 he received applause and cheers.

Fox News aired the VIDEO of the 2011 CPAC but the AUDIO (of the boos) from 2010. How do you do this accidently?

    BAN FOX NEWS!

...a lie is a lie. The truth isn't partisan (though it seems to avoid the Conservatives).

I just returned from visiting my parents, and it's really strange how their generation just cannot and will not accept that it's not a news program but rather propaganda with a pre-arranged (as opposed to responsive to conditions and emerging facts) narrative.

I've tried to talk to them calmly about it and walk them trough several examples, but it's no dice. Same thing with my father-in-law.

What's creepy for me is hearing a bunch of very different people who've never met, all in their 70's, giving off the exact same verbatim reasons for disliking Obama. And it's almost never based on policy or actions! I can do a much better job of tearing down Obama based on his actual work. (sigh)

After wading through the "he doesn't love America!" stuff, I begged my Dad this time to give me just two policy things. Healthcare was fine with me as a talking point. Dad has few facts about it, but at least it's really a relevant thing to talk about. His second policy point was "he's appeasing Iran!"

Me: Dad, has he given up territory or resources to Iran? I think we just froze some more assets, sending them into crazy inflation.

Him: He won't stand up to them!

Me: Do you want another war in that region? Want us to send troops into Iran? What exactly would you do?

Him: I would let Israel attack! Obama is holding them back.

Me: I have no data on our high-level communications with Israel, especially when it relates to DOD or CIA... you?

    Him: No... Not really.

    (end of discussion.)

And I watched the very same drivel talking points about an hour later, regurgitated on Fox "News." In our nation's autopsy some day, this is going to be implicated in decline. So very sad.

finalsbound and B-Bob, you make me so grateful to be the one person in the US whose retirement age parents became MORE liberal over the past 8 years (since my Dad's retirement - from Exxon no less).

It is subjective, true. When Fox's opinion of their broadcast would be considered lieing, then the networks are policing themselves.

something makes me think that if this were FOX News, it would've been all over Everybody's facebook page and in this thread...however since its not..it was just ignored...

    http://newsbusters.org/blogs/scott-...-claims-obama-added-only-13-people-federal-wo

From the story - "On Thursday's Hardball, Chris Matthews preposterously insisted that Barack Obama added "only 13" people to the federal workforce in 2009 and that the total number of individuals working for the U.S. government (as of 2010) was 4,443. ....

According to the Office of Personnel Management (the source Matthews cited), there were 4,430,000 federal employees by 2010 and the President increased the numbers by 13,000, not 13. "

Its just a few zeros right? True, I believe it was an honest, albiet stupid, mistake. But if FOX were to make this same mistake, there would be OUTRAGE. My point is not to blast Matthews, but to point out that news organizations make mistakes like this all the time, but only one is under the microscope. Where is MediaMatters on this? They don't care because its not FOX. Just like when that small town Fox Affiliate that is watched by a few hundred thousand people mistakenly said "Obama Bin Laden is Dead" and it was everywhere...but the same day when MSNBC made the exact same error in front of millions of viewers nationwide, it was almost Nowhere to be found in the news.

I've worked in broadcast for over 18yrs now and mistakes happen more often than you realize everywhere. Editing techniques of reusing old footage, etc..are used by EVERY network. The only reason its coming to light today is because of the internet, is easier to catch. Again, if people pay as much attention to every detail of ALL the networks, you'd find this more often everywhere, not just FOX.

But I don't think reusing old footage is usually meant to deceive. FOX, on the other hand, has repeatedly been caught doing this, and these "mistakes" always happen to fit their agenda. That's the difference, I think. I don't think anyone is really griping about making mistakes.

Lucky guy. I cannot talk to my mother about anything now, because I get Fox News blurbs and talking points without any interest in objective inquiry.

DFW: I think yo nailed it. No other "news program" is so blatantly biased to the point of active propaganda. Fox news went to court in the USA and successfully argued it was under no obligation to present the truth.

You really don't need to look very far to notice the difference between a "mistake" and an "intentional deception" or a "willfull mistruth". Honestly, Fox has been made fun of for this for years now - examples are all over the place.

In CNN's defense, they are probably just looking for comedy gold ratings from another stellar performance by pointyboots.
