Chris Paul is the best PG in the league. If Rose was as efficient as Paul is offensively, I'd say Rose is. But he's not.

Overhyped? Is the OP serious? His arrival completely altered the culture for the Clippers. There's a reason for that. He holds teammates accountable, can take over games (see last night's Heat game) and gets everyone involved.

And less than CP3's 16.1 right now.

Nice ... lying to make a point.

CP3 is averaging 16.1 ppg an 8.8 apg on freaking 51.5 % FG...and don't forget his 2.75 steals per game.

I like how the Chris Paul hater arbitrarily set a superstar points per game threshold and then has his theory work against him because he cited a wrong PPG figure.

cp3 is one of the best in the game.

he TRULY makes the players around him MUCH better.

has very few weaknesses, if any.

he will be huge for them come playoff time

This CP3 trade will turn out to be one of the biggest acquisitions in history IMHO... Already close , just for making the Clippers relevant.... If they win at least 1 championship, he gets my vote....

CP3 is a superstar. I still don't think the Clippers will win a championship because of lack of depth but CP3 is the best game manager in the NBA.

I believe the OP is just saying CP3 isn't as dominate as he was in 2008. Yes, CP3 is still very, very good and an amazing point guard, but the level of dominance hasn't been touched since his injuries.

If CP3 wanted to score over 20 ppg, he could, easily. Are you kidding me? Do you even watch the games?

If anything I would say he doesnt/hasnt got the respect he deserves. I used to cringe when people said that Deron Williams was better than CP.

For me, CP3 is the best PG in the league. At the very least he is top 3.

    OP is huffing paint.

Chris Paul could easily average over 20 points per game if he wanted to. He doesn't have to put this team on his back every night like he did in New Orleans. And your logic is absolutely insane. He's not a superstar because of his PPG average?

Rose plays like a SG. You can't really put him as a solid PG.

Rose is a better all around player though than Chris Paul. You can include Rose in the top 5 nba players right now, I don't think you can include Chris Paul there.

He's also had less talent around him than Paul has had in his career thus far.

Yep I agree, though the line between them isn't that clear right now. Historically, Chris Paul has outperformed Derrick Rose:

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/h2h_finder.cgi?request=1&p1=rosede01&p2=paulch01

However, the last game when they played head to head:
Rose had 29 pts, 16 assists, 8 rebounds, 1 steal, 4 turnovers on 57.1% shooting
Paul had 15 pts, 14 assists, 4 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 turnovers on 50% shooting

If you look purely at the stats, they still look super close, but if anyone watched the game, Paul had a ton of trouble staying in front of Rose and actually got the ball ripped from him twice in the same quarter. The entire game also seemed haphazard on LAC's part (though that may be due to the fact that their team is young and undisciplined compared to Roses). I think Rose will still need to improve in terms of controlling pace the way Chris Paul does, but the tools that they have to win games are totally different.

In all honesty, I feel that Paul will have more longevity in the league than Derrick Rose because of the pace he plays the game at, but in terms of overall impact and production; I may have to start giving the edge to Rose..

Chris Paul is a superstar player one of only 5 or so in the league.

    I fully agree with OP

CP3 is still a very good PG, but not on a superstar level anymore

    D-Rose is now >>>>>>> CP3

Stats aren't everything. CP3 doesn't need to go out and drop 20+ points on a team like the Clippers in which you have Billups, Butler, Griffin, MoWill, and even DJ who can carry parts of the scoring load. CP3 gets his points in when they matter most or whenever there's an easy opportunity during the game (mismatches). And saying Rose is better than CP3 is ridiculous. Rose is a shooting guard trapped in a Point Guard's body.

He doesn't make his teammates better. Just look at last year's playoffs. Which players benefited from Rose's play in the playoffs? Who got easy scoring opportunities because of his play? No one. Rose is a great player, but he isn't on CP3's level as far as Basketball IQ goes or just Point Guard goes. Best way to look at it would be, if you were a Shooting Guard, would you rather have CP3 on your team or D. Rose? It's not even close.

Oh and since you're so big on stats, CP3 averaged 22.0ppg, 11.5apg, 6.7rpg, 1.8spg, 54% FG, 47% 3PT, and 80% FT in the Playoffs last year. So saying he's not a superstar is just foolish. Putting those stats up when he virtually had no one to help him in the Playoffs and STILL scoring and passing efficiently, i think D. Rose could take some notes.

I've got to call BS on the Rose > CP crap. Last year Paul shot better from the field, the line, and the arc while getting 2.4 more assists, more than double the steals, and more than a turnover less while playing less minutes and posting an obscene offensive rating of 122 to Rose's 113, leading all point guards.

The case for Rose? He took more shots and thus scored more, and he won the best story aw...err...MVP award. That's it.

Then in the playoffs, Paul further upped his assists by 2, his ORating by 4 and his field goal percentage to an obscene .545 while Rose fired up over 23 shots a game at a .396 clip.

But yeah, continue judging their relative worths on a 3-week stretch in which one of them is learning a new offense and new teammates. That's cool. OR...if you're going to cite stat cutoffs required to be a superstar, perhaps look at...GASP...multiple stats, not just points.

*note: Rose is doing great, is fun to watch, and I don't dispute him as a superstar. But let's not get carried away.
