Yes there was; Pitino's slow paced, defensive system, and the talent Williams was sharing the court with. He didn't need to score more than that, and they were the top ranked team entering the tourney that year for that reason.
Even if he's more talented than Budinger, his attitude problems and arrogance will put people off. he's probably pissed teammates and coaches off in practice, which is why his ass is firmly glued to the bench right now.
I must have missed something. What has Terrence Williams done as a Rocket that makes people think he's a worthwhile rotation player?
Dude come on. Don't you think this guy should get a shot. Look what Bud has done so far. Mchale should give him Bud's backup role for a couple of games, if he stinks it up, give the spot back to Bud.

Yall know i was HUGE on this guy... but the way he has ruined so many other stints is starting to make me lose faith in him just being that great of an NBA baller, simple as that. The counter argument could be ofcourse that he is a victim of circumstances which is viable also, but his history kind of makes that hard to believe anymore...
McHale might just be testing him. I'm sure he knows Terrance has the talent, but just needs to really WANT to put it all together. Up until now he just wanted to play. It might be good personality management
I can't understand for the life of me why he isn't getting 20 minutes a night just to **** up. He's clearly going to be an elite player if he's given the time to work through his on-court bad habits in favor of learning good ones. He might not be a good student but he isn't dumb. And he isn't selfish. And he isn't sluggish. He does lack some confidence but I think if he got more encouragement and a longer leash he'd respond well to that. The only real hope the Rockets have with the current roster is that one of them turns out to be a surprise superstar. I'm happy they're giving Parsons developmental minutes. Same with Patterson and Hill. But T-Will's more likely to break out than any of them (possible exception Patterson) and he's stuck on the bench, even with Lee out. I can't figure it. Let T-Will be T-Will.

Was given a chance by McHale and didn't do much 6. Currently in McHale's doghouse 7. Never tried to improve his shooting which wasn't good in the first place 8. Was never a good decision-maker in a team setting 9. Never had a great attitude in a team setting And that's just off the top of my head
I kind of don't think of him as a rotation player (and I don't think he's our 9th or 10th best player now). I think of him as a possible All-Star in waiting if he ever gets consistent minutes. Here's why: - His speed, which is so fast that right now it is often a liability. - His athleticism, no other Rocket is in the same ballpark. - His creativity. His energy. His passing. - His obviously unique brain and his unique brain/body relationship. If his mind and his body ever get on the same clock he will be a very special player. - His crazy shooting. He plays too much like a pass-first player. But when he looks for his shot (which he does infrequently) he makes some cold blooded shots. I light up when he hits the court. If he's on the court the game is twice as interesting to me.
All these "traits" are useless if he has the wrong attitude and I think he does. How many coaches has he not gained any minutes from? That's right 3. Ship this guy to Europe or the D-league.
Fair list. Remember though that coaches demand discipline, rightly, and T-Will is an untamed beast. As long as they tell him there's a right way and he's doing it wrong he will respond badly and he will pout. I do the same with my pool game. I'm right handed but I learned the other way so my left hand is often wobbly which affects my shot. People tell me how much better I'd be at pool if I shot with my good hand but I learned the wrong way, I'm a creative and very decent player now and every time I try to do it "right" I get frustrated and bummed out and lose interest in the game. I think T-Will might be the same. He can try another way of playing but his strength is as a feral player, not a domesticated one. Everybody expected more from him when he came into the league. We have this whole year where really nothing going to happen, at least until the trade deadline. Why not really check him out? With the understanding that he's not like the other children and probably doesn't respond well to the usual techniques. I know this is a bridge too far but neither did Mozart. Or FDR. Or Einstein. Or Beckett. Or Dylan. Or MLK. Need I go on? There's a movement lately to make better businesspeople of artists, which is as silly an idea as I can imagine. As soon as someone exhibits a special right-brained gift someone else starts teaching him how to use his left. And when it doesn't work, he's in the "doghouse." We have some games, we have some minutes, it's not working out. Give him a try. At the very least, it won't be boring. And lately, when it comes to basketball, I'm bored.
