It's funny...everyone in every city is convinced that their city has the worst drivers. I've never heard anyone say "my city has the best drivers!"

This is so true. I don't get the need to go so fast. Half the time when someone passes me, I end up passing them later when they're taking an exit or something. It's like all that speed...and you got to your exit the same time as I did. What's the point?

I'm the guy that sets the cruise control to 70 (or whatever the speed limit is) and drives in the 2nd lane from the left. Stress-free driving FTW. The cars in the left lane fly by me like I'm not even moving. And I never see them get pulled over.

If drivers just adjusted their speeds based on the flow of traffic, then driving would be a lot easier. It's those people who are driving cautiously and slower that are causing the problems on the freeways...because they are trying to slow down the flow of traffic to their tastes when the reality is the flow of traffic is at a minimum the speed limit and usually higher than that. So, everyone is having to work to get around the slow pokes because they are not keeping up with the flow of traffic and, worse, they are often in the fast lane. People also don't understand the concept of merging and it is abused often...so all bets are off any time you have to merge.

Except in DFW...it is the absolute truth. It's one of the reasons why Dallas sucks.

The people who wait till the last second to merge or change lanes can all go burn in a fiery pit.

bad driving is bad driving. Crazy enraged driving is no better or worse than slow pathetic driving.

SA and Dallas are worse by far.

And Virginia drivers kill me. The militant cops and undersized interstates (64, 95) have combined to make life hell. Grandmas in the left lane going 54 because 'that's plenty fast enough' (and the occasional NASCAR fan that loses his crap if anyone passes him, taking it as a glove slap across the face)

I have a question, how many of you actually check your blind spots and use blind spot mirrors?

It really bugs me when people just switch lanes and assume there is nothing to their sides.

That irks the hell out of me, too. I can't tell you the number of times I've almost been side-swiped or seen someone in front of me had that happen to them. I'm always on the watch for these people. It amazes me how many people out there never actually make an effort to look at their blind spot. The worst is when it happens and the person they run into is on a motorcycle. It happened here in DFW not too long ago. Death was the result. We also went through a span where passengers decided to open the door and try to climb out while the vehicle is moving, fall out, and die. I have to pass a grave marker every day where someone splatted doing this. It literally happened twice within a half mile on the same road I commute on.

I am curious Scarface281, why do you have to use the emergency lane/shoulder?

I don't like people that go slow in the left lane, especially those who know they are going slow in the left lane. It just kills me. Coming back from Dallas after the UH game everything was fine, even when traffic was tight people were still hitting 70-80 mph and using proper lane etiquette...that was until I got to Conroe.

One guy just had to be that slow guy in the left lane, and the guy knew it, too. Everytime the person in front of me would tailgate him to let him know that he needs to speed up or move to the right lane the guy would tap his brakes. Once that guy got around him the slow left lane man gave me the same treatment. Unbelievable.

Well, there is your problem right there. Dallas has one of the worst freeway/highway layouts I have ever driven on out of Houston, SA, Dallas, Baton Rouge, Albany, OKC, Tulsa and Miami.

I have seen a lot of things on the freeways, the ones that make me the most angry are: people who have missed an exit so they put it in reverse on the shoulder, the people that drive under the speed minimum (got stuck behind a lady doing 40 mph on I-10 in Houston with people whizzing by at 70 mph), slow left lane drivers, and people who have **** falling out the back of their truck/van/car (I have seen car batteries, shovels, wheelbarrows, etc).

I generally don't check in light traffic but I srsly check my rear-view mirrors every 3-5 secs. I am fully aware of who is around me and how fast the cars are going behind me. I have been in one accident and it was on the second day of having my drivers license, 16 yrs old, 9 years ago.

i'm actually over cautious about this. I not only check mirrors but turn my head to look.

You just sound like a disgruntled speeder, lol. Alert: road rage and tailgating may pursue.

Same here, I often times almost see accidents occur because of this.
I honestly don't understand why more car manufacturers don't put blind spot mirrors, or those fancy blind spot protection systems as stock

To everyone else who replied to me. It's good to know that I'm not the only one who is overly cautious about this. I refuse to ever drive in anyone's blind spots and I often speed up or slow down so cars aren't travelling with me side by side

I hate it when people do that. Using the "emergency lane" during the normal flow of traffic, especially going 70+ or whatever you have to in order to pass someone, is extremely dangerous for everyone on the road. Totally irresponsible of you.

And no, I'm not one to get in the far left lane only to go the exact speed limit. I admit to having a heavy foot myself and think that posted speeds are too low, but I will still only use the fast lane if I'm really on the move. However, if someone happens to be in that lane and they're going at least the posted speed limit, it seems pretty silly to get legitimately upset with them.

Traffic makes me wonder if Hitler was really such a bad guy... If people weren't effectively anonymous on the road, I doubt they would act like such ****ing morons. Seems like a great majority of commuters need to be burned alive in massive ovens. Of course, people are only as good as the incentives their presented, so I can't blame them. Most are probably more good than bad.

Just an hour ago on the way home, sine idiot was jogging the left lane on a two lane freeway. I went to pass him on the right and he matched my speed until I got to the car in front of me. I went behind him and he started tapping his brakes. When i didn't back off, he slammed on them. Thought about using the emergency lane, then thought about this thread, then used the emergency lane. Eff all that. When i got into the emergency lane, this fool matches my speed there, so I let off and went back into the mainlanes. I really don't like doing it, but it needs to happen sometimes. Finally got around the dumbass, who had someone else in the car and he's laughing and flicking me off. I just shook my head.

But if someone is driving the speed limit in the left lane they need to move over. Yes I get upset because when i approach them and need to move to the left and pass, they are blocking the way. They don't understand that driving side by side with another car isn't safe either. I and other drivers shouldn't have to turn into Arian Foster in order to move around someone. Now, if there is just one single car in the left lane and it is easy to pass them up because no other cars are around, then I don't care. But in heavier traffic? Different story.

I don't get how people don't do this. A defensive driver should be checking his mirrors on a very regular basis. Recently, I got on 59 at the spur heading back towards the Galleria area. I see an F-250 (big truck drivers are underrated terrible drivers...people like to talk about Asians and women, but these ****ers are up there with the worst) with his turn signal on and it's one of those that blink in the mirror. Of course, the guy's just a moron who just forgot to turn it off and I guess I should be happy he actually used it, but I had him in my sight from when I got on at 59 to exiting at Newcastle and he never changed lanes or turned the signal off. That means for about 7-8 minutes, that idiot (who was on the phone of course), didn't check his side mirror once.
