RedRedemption's thread reminded me how many photographers, of varying levels of competence and and enthusiasm , we have on board. might not be bad to have a dedicated crit thread. anywho, i'll start:

good thread thegary. i would suggest resizing pics so we don't have to scroll to see all of it, or at least spoiler tag. your pic is too big.

I'm not going to ask you to resize it again (I didn't see the original size), but the detail begs for that pic to be bigger........almost poster size. Would look cool on a wall.

Great composition by the way.......even the clouds draw your eyes to the feet.

Maybe some words about the pic as well, because now I am really curious as to what the heck that is.. some kind of performance set piece?

it looked gorgeous in its original size. maybe a spoiler tag would have been better.

i took this on christmas evening. there was a cloud of mist/fog hovering over downtown. luckily i had my point and shoot. i didn't have a tripod so couldn't really get the composition i wanted. i just propped the camera on a concrete block. the power lines seems to really distract from the pic. i darkened it a bit in PS and cropped. the fog seemed a lot more dense in person than this pic suggest. is there a way to make the fog more prevalent? longer shutter speed possibly?

the power lines are a bit distracting and there is a general lack of focus. however, the element most responsible for the lack of drama is the overly lit and expansive foreground of uninteresting concrete. i know you cropped already but eliminating most of the street and darkening it allows you to concentrate on the more important details of the pic.

this thread clearly states [photography] critique, not [CaseyH's mom] critique.
    thanks for trying though.

It's pretty good for a vacation snapshot, although for that i would have done eiher a panoramic or cut out the towers completely.

If you are gonna get butthurt over a critique, don't start a critique thread.

it would have been nice if you included this in your "garbage" post because at least we know why you think it's garbage. and i actually see your point. just saying "garbage" isn't really helping.

dude, you were trolling, so i replied in kind. at least you said something of substance this time, even though i disagree with you. there is nothing you could possibly say that would hurt my butt. why don't you post one of your own panoramic beauties so we can see what a great photo looks like?

Next time if you have a concrete block try stopping down the aperture if you can on your P&S. the lens on these things doesn't do bokeh very well but you can get some good sun stars. That's what i did walking to Yao's downtown one night.

thegary - I don't love the placement of the towers, especially the one on the proper right. I think becuase it is cropped right before the joint for the overhang part. So it is a little off for me. Also it is unfortunate that the majority of the angles are sharp or 90 degrees but the bottom wall has a curve. I keep wanting to make that wall border straight.

I can't critique you on anything technical photography wise but those are some of my thoughts compositionally.

Here's some I took in Colorado a few years back. Unfortunately haven't had a lot of time to use the nice equipment since our little one was born a couple of years back. Most photography work now done quickly with the iphone.
