My car (2005 Acura TL) got flooded yesterday in my apartment parking lot, and the insurance company said it is not salvageable. They gave me a decent amount of money, and I think I'm going to buy a new car. But something around 20k.. Any suggestions? Looking at maybe a Honda Accord or Hyundai Sonata. Something with decent gas mileage, a good warranty.. Thanks!
Phillyrocket, do you have the 2.5 liter or 3.5 liter? I'm not sure if i can get used to having around 175HP..
Buy a Sonata....drove one as a rental when my Hyundai Genesis was doing its 30k service. Can't beat the 10 year 100k miles warranty
Mazda3 is very fun to drive; by far the best handling in class, and the 2012 models just added a new engine that gets up to 28/40 mpg. Plus you can get it in hatchback form as well.
I agree with going for Mazda, but I would recommend the Mazda6 which is a tad bit bigger (mid-size sedan).
I have a 2010 Mazda 3s sport and avoided a craaazzy ass wreck on my commute to Dallas. Like having a 2008+ Camry cut in front of you at 85mph, then start fish tailing out of control, and subsequently face planting the concrete median 50 ft away from you with debris and what-not flying at your car, cray-cray. Another time I almost sped right into stopped traffic when I totally misjudged the stop light and (non)-moving cars. Went from 50 mph to 0 in 150-200ft. Knock on wood for both cases, but you get what I mean. Pretty fun and relatively safe (or wreckless) to drive. With the new 2012 skyactiv models, I can't wait to see the reviews.... I bought it used in 2011 for around 17k with 17k miles. I thought I got a steal.
what draws me to the Sonata is the warranty, for sure. i know they build nicer cars now, but can't get rid of the stigma of a cheap, poorly built car. i know it has changed, but still.. i may go test drive it to win me over.
Hyundai Sonata is badass. I got jealous when my dad bought it recently (although I love my 2010 Camaro) because it's such a smooth drive and it has very nice features and of course the badass warranty.
I was going to say this. These type of questions come up all the time, and I always say the same thing. I had a Ford Fusion as a company car for a while, and it's fantastic. Easily the best car in its class. Better than most $30K cars. At $20K, you'll be getting a really basic one, but it'll be nicer than the Accord you find for the same price.
