If he keeps performing well in the debates, who knows? Romney is still very weak. The fact that he still thinks that America should be a "world police" goes to show how little he knows of the problems of the US. Bad Economy? LETS FIX THAT BY THROWING MORE MONEY OVERSEAS YEAH!
You have said nothing but fluff. He "out-Romney's Romney" means nothing if you don't even define what it means lol
You think Huntsman can out "moderate" Romney in the Republican primary? I really feel like if Romney wasn't in this race Huntsman would have a strong chance, but I just don't see how he can get any real traction with Romney around. Maybe this is all about building national name recognition for another run down the road? At some point I wonder if Huntsman offers Romney a deal; he backs out to allow Romney to completely solidify the middle right and just blow out the rest of the races if he gets the nod as Secretary of State if Romney wins?
I'm sorry that didn't make sense to you. He's more moderate than Romney in a race where everyone who isn't voting for Romney is looking for someone more conservative. It's not fluff. Sorry if it's too complicated for you. "lol"
I think that's exactly it. If Obama wins this year, most of the other people running aren't going be in the mix in 2016. Huntsman is really the only viable guy, with maybe Santorum as well. You'll have lots of new faces by then, but this race lets Huntsman get at least some facetime and established credibility to compete with the potential Mitch Daniels, Christie, etc that might be joining for 2016. The GOP historically is a bit of an establishment party, so maybe he can position himself as the establishment favorite.
Oh I'm sorry, I thought by "out-Romney" you meant that Huntsman could not out-change and out-adapt his views constantly in a flip-flop manner to gain voters, like what Romney has done. Nobody knows Rom's true values since he's the king of the "sandals". (Hope you got that one).
So do you think he's more moderate simply because he thinks evolution is true (it is, im sorry, really sorry if you think otherwise), and because he thinks global warming is true (again, sorry if you reject this), and because he thinks gay's should be allowed to have civil unions? What else makes him such a bigger "moderate"? What exactly is a moderate to your own terms? Somebody who isn't a right wing nutcase like Bachmann? Is this how you define "moderate" or is this some sort of term you have no basis on defining because you really don't know who Huntsman is?
He's moderate in the sense that that's the crowd he's appealing to. He's moderate on both social issues and foreign policy. He's moderate in how he ran Utah. He's openly anti-tea-party and the people voting for him are the liberal and moderate independents. As justtxyank said, he's running to the left of Romney in a race where everyone wants someone more confrontational on the right.
Are you crazy? Just new to this race? Huntsman has run to the left of Romney. This isn't my imagination or something that I'm just throwing out there with no basis to define. And I didn't reject anything he said or say I don't like him or call him stupid or anything like that. I actually like Huntsman and think he would be the best president of the bunch. That doesn't just the facts. He's running to the left of Romney who already has trouble coalescing the base in this election cycle because they think he's too moderate.
Huntsman supports the Paul Ryan Medicare plan, Romney doesn't. Huntsman proposes lower tax rates than Romney. Huntsman implemented vouchers in Utah. Huntsman is a conservative pretending to be moderate. Romney is a moderate pretending to be conservative.
exactly, people have this wrong vision of who Huntsman is just because he agrees with science. They assume he's a moderate just because of those few social issues.
Well, that and foreign policy. And domestic policy like penalizing banks for being too big. And cutting back on defense spending. Or raising taxes by $300 billion per year by eliminating the employer health care subsidy. And of course, he doesn't think the Obama administration is the devil. But yes, ignoring social views, foreign policy, and his views on finance and other hot button issues, he's 100% conservative. If he were the pure hard-core conservative that you claim, then he's really just an idiot. Because he could have easily run away from the field in that case.
You know, I really don't think it's "liberal" of him to pull out from Afghanistan/Iraq or all of his foreign policies. I think it's the logical thing to do. How can you preach about economic prowess but yet still want to throw away money overseas if you are a Rep candidate? How? Ron Paul nailed it today when he said that the money we are pumping into our military complex does not give back returns. And banks failed. lol
That's not really conservative I agree, but it's preferable to bailouts and guaranteed loans and subsidies that Obama (and many GOP) likes. Outlawing those three things would do wonders for our economy. Haven't seen this anywhere in his platform but it doesn't bother me. It's not a subsidy, it's a tax exemption. And many conservatives want to eliminate all exemptions in exchange for lower rates. Exemptions distort markets. In this case, when you health insurance is tied to your job it makes it harder to move to something else. Huntsman is anti-abortion rights. It was bad political judgement, but he's not an idiot when it comes to governing.
I thik romney will win, his biggest threat will be huntsman. That guy knows the issues and is a good talker. Paul will not win. I think paul could be dangerous for obama if he decided to run on a 3rd party ticket. Gengrich will not win, too much baggage. He does know the issues, but damn that guy is the epitome of your typical politician(not good) no way would huntsman and romney be on the same ticket, 2 rich mormons? Conservative christians would not be down for that. Just not sure who romney wold run with, i doubt it will be a crazy pick like palin. That rob portman may be a solid choice given is conservative track record. If i had to go in order 1.paul 2. Romney 3. Huntsman 4. Gengrich Despite some of his economic views, i think paul is a principled guy that doesnt flop around. I seriously doubt if he won, congress and senate would not go for some of his ecomomic policies. No income tax? Yeah, right.
You guys are right. In this political climate, Huntsman is a hardcore right winger! That's why he chose to skip such a moderate state like Iowa and camp in a more traditionally conservative state such as New Hampshire. I expect his ultra conservative brand of republicanism will fare quite well in South Carolina!
Not that it matters, not that if will make any difference, I just preferred Huntsman for the GOP nominee because he's not as apparently insane as the rest of the field. He's not anti-science, he doesn't say outrageous things, he seems to have a set of personal beliefs that don't change with the Fox poll of the day and has some actual diplomatic experience that tones down the jingoism. But hey, rock on crazy train.
I really like John Huntsman and would vote for him 100% if given the opportunity. I was a little disappointed when he shied away from his position on gay marriage when pressed about it in a debate.
