those polls must have a liberal bias, huh? you obviously didnt smoke pot in high school or you wouldnt make this statement. it is much easier to get if you are under 21 and even more so if you are under 18. no question that pot is more accessible to high school kids than alcohol. at my high school, any day of the week there were always at least 3 people i could get pot or acid from. there was only one person at one convenience store in my town that would sell us alcohol.

Wouldn't it have been easier to grab a beer from your parents' (or friends' parents') house than it was to buy pot?

¿No habría sido más fácil asir una cerveza de la casa de sus padres (o los padres de los amigos) que debía comprar el pote?

actually, no. it was easier to buy narcotics at my high school than it was to grab a beer from parents or friends parents house (but we did that too!).

    So it was easier to:

    A. Find someone to sell you narcotics
    B. Get/have the money to go to that person and buy it

    Than to:

    A. Open the refrigerator door and grab a beer?

When you think about it, weed is much easier to get because the sources are obvious (stoners), and it's easy to transport. A small sandwich bag is easier to hand off than a 12 pack.

If you didn't want to get in trouble, yes. We could easily find a bag of weed (I've never nor will I ever dabble in anything worse than that) before we'd take the chance on stealing beers from the family that would notice it was gone. The only time we took beers from the fridge was when we'd go to our neighbors who would always let us take cokes and what not from their garage fridge when we were out playing basketball. What they didn't know is that we liked beer as well. :)

But seriously, while we could've easily had beer from our own house, no one was stupid enough to actually do it because we knew we'd get caught. And it was pretty much impossible to find someone to buy us booze until we found a liquor store senior year that sold to us with no ID. Of course, we had to drive 15 miles for that when we could have stayed where we were and had the other stuff brought to us.

usually beer isnt free and doesnt just appear in the fridge, so there should be an extra step before the opening the refrigerator door part. that makes an A and B which makes them both the same.

yes. i had a job in high school so i had plenty of money for expenditures. it was easier to not get caught as well. my parents werent big drinkers and when alcohol was around, they would notice if things went missing.

Yes, for reasons already mentioned in this thread. I'll go ahead and nutshell my own personal experience: drug dealers rarely have any scruples or morals. They will sell to anyone and everyone.

A liquor store/beer store will do so only very rarely because they are subjected to laws, licensure regulations, etc., not to mention losing their jobs, maybe the store itself, and potentially going to jail when all the have to do is run an honest, law-abiding business in the first place.

So, yes, it was (and is still) FAR easier to obtain illegal substances than it was to obtain beer/liquor.

I've also spent the last four years as a counselor with adolescents in addiction and psych issues. They all said the same thing: drugs are far easier to obtain than alcohol.

I think the key to that study and in general is defining 'periodically.'
