Are you glad that the trade for Pau Gasol fell through?

How has Pau Gasol regressed? He's a 22.1 PER player with a .614 TS%. We would not be 2-6 with Gasol. Not to mention also having Nene. It's not his fault Kobe decides he should shoot 40 times a game because he's pissed at trading away Odom and not getting Paul.

So now every team that can only make the 2nd round should tank? This is silly.

First of all, we don't know that the team could "only" make the 2nd round.

Secondly, if the team can make the 2nd round, you never know what could happen once it gets there.

Third, it wasn't the final move Morey would make.

He hasn't. Pau is doing what he always does.

That's what 90% of this board thinks and it's pathetic.

I know. Pau did have a bad postseason and everyone is basing it on that, but it was pretty much just a fluke.

Would L.A. make this trade without the guarantee that Dwight would resign, or would the trade only go down if he signs an extension? The reason I ask is what if the Lakers assume Dwight will stay with them and he bolts in free agency? In this trade scenario, the Lakers lose both Gasol and Bynum, leaving Dwight, Troy Murphy, Josh McRoberts, and Derrick Caracter as their big men.

i hate LA and would love it if that happened... but odds are he would have to sign an extension in order for the lakers to approve the trade

Howard will sign an extension with Lakers. He named three teams he wants to join, LA is one of them, so there is no much if over there.

Exactly, good players have bad playoff stretches all the time. I'd much rather look into a player's whole body of work than a random 10 game stretch. Kobe has had some bad playoff stretches too but no one talks about them

Pau Gasol? Nene? Chuck Hayes? All in the same front court?

Heck yeah, where do I sign up. The trade veto totally screwed us up.

No, I'm actually pretty pissed that it fell through.

A front court combination of Gasol and Nene paired with Kyle Lowry would have set us up to build a championship-caliber roster within the next 3 or 4 years.

I love Scola, but Gasol is a clear upgrade overall. Kevin Martin is an extremely efficient scorer and that is all. Totally expendable when you actually have 2 legitimate post players to throw it to.

We were bringing in a legitimate all-star 7 footer (only about 1-2 years after losing our own 7 foot all-star). How many teams have a legitimate 7 foot all-star? Gasol may not be our answer to the championship but he is certainly a good start when it comes to building a championship team.

Also, there was a high possibility that Nene was coming here, and even if he we could still secure Chuck Hayes and Dalembert. And with spare cap room we have other options available to improve this team.

Imagine if we had Nene and Pau Gasol, with the current Lowry gunning with them. Face value alone, that's something to drool about. Heck who knows, maybe Marc Gasol would have had a stronger incentives of coming here (after all Grizzlies said they wouldn't match if Marc didn't want to stay) if his brother was traded here.

There were so many potential follow up moves that could have been made just by acquiring Pau Gasol and freeing up cap room.

With respect, some of the trade-that-didn't-happen players are showing a bit of a hangover. Martin can spasm himself into a good effort now and again but often stinks it up. Gasol shows flashes of his old self but it looks like Kobe is taking it on himself, with Bynum stepping up until his usual 25 games on the shelf.

So it's tough to say who's performing well and if the trade would have been good or bad. All things considered, I wish Gasol were a Rocket.

So 20 PER is now the new benchmark for superstars?

Would I pay money to see Pau? Absolutely not....but have and will continue to pay to see Scola, Lowry, PPat, and Martin.

No, but a career average of 19 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and almost 2 blocks per game is.
