    I prefer Mean Streets. The intro is some EVH's best work.

    I listen to Mean Streets this weekend (always like Fair Warning for some reason) and noticed for the first time how much it sounds like pre-suck ZZ Top! Noice!

    Producer John Shanks Confirms Working With Van Halen

    The Van Halen News Desk was the first to report last December that Van Halen were to record a new studio album with Grammy Award winning producer John Shanks in January, 2011. Shanks confirmed this with a tweet late Thursday night, “here we go kids…..vh” followed by tweeting this photo he took from the studio:

    Hmmm....not bad. Eddie's solo sounds just like every other solo he's ever done....but I don't care. Because it's VAN freaking HALEN. With David Lee Roth. All is right with the world (although it would be perfect if Michael Anthony was back on bass).

    Hell, I'm just geeked to hear an actual guitar solo in a song again. Seems like a lost art with all these lame indie bands.

    I hear they're coming to Houston this summer. Are the tour dates released yet? I missed them last time but I'm not going to miss them this time. I don't care how effed up Eddie is or how weird DLR looks with short hair.

    Not a bad 1st single. It's catchy and the more i listen to it the more i like it. I'm looking foward to the rest of the album when it comes out on Feb 7th.

    Van Halen's new album is _A Different Kind Of Truth_, which will be released in the U.S. by Interscope Records on February 7.

    IIRC three of the twelve tracks were based on 70s demos.

    I thought that song was pretty boring and meh, and it was painful watching them strut around like it was 1984.

    It's not VH without Anthony. I think Sammy has recently come out and said all the backup vocals on their last tour were taped, the ones Anthony would normally sing. That's a HUGE part of their sound. I don't need to see Hugo Reyes up there playing bass with VH, sorry. FU, Ed.

    I'll buy my tickets and hope there isn't a cancellation. I missed them the last time it was with DLR. Saw them with Sammy but it's not the same. What are the odds of this tour making it all the way to June?

    They made it through the whole tour last time. They canceled a few dates when EVH did his latest stint in rehab but they went back to those cities later in the year. I would expect the tour to go on as scheduled.

    Agree about Anthony. How sweet would this be if it was the true =vh= classic lineup? Wish Ed would just get over it, bring back Anthony and make his son his guitar tech or something.

    That being said, I'd much rather see =vh= with DLR and without Anthony than I would with Anthony and without DLR. Never got into the Van Hagar lineup. Too poppy for my taste.

    When do tickets to the Houston show go on sale?
