My dream was that they'd get to go in together. If that's the case, I'm going to Cooperstown and taking my sons. I'd love to be able to teach them about 2 of my sports idols in that setting.
Is anyone watching? 36 minutes in and I'm not sure if I've even heard the words "Jeff Bagwell" mentioned. I didn't catch the first segment so maybe they mentioned him there? So far, I've seen long discussions on Larkin (very deserving) and Jack Morris (eh).
I'll be seeing you there if it does happen. Too bad my kids are to young to understand/appreciate it.
[rquoter]• Jeff Bagwell: The best assessment of Bagwell's HOF credentials I've ever read just appeared on this site, from the ever-eloquent Schoenfield. But let me add: What we have here is a guy who has vehemently denied he used any illegal PED, and who didn't appear in the Mitchell report even though star witness Brian McNamee worked for the Astros. What we also have here is a player whose Hall of Fame qualifications couldn't possibly be more clear-cut. How many first basemen are in the 400-homer, 200-steal club? Just one: Jeff Bagwell. How many first basemen have ever ripped off at least 12 straight seasons with an OPS-plus of 130 or better? Only two: Bagwell and Gehrig. Not to mention this fellow was a rookie of the year, an MVP, a Gold Glove winner and the Simba-esque leader on a team that went to the postseason six times. So why are so many people NOT voting for him again?[/rquoter] http://espn.go.com/mlb/hof12/story/_/id/7434381/jayson-stark-baseball-hall-fame-ballot
Larkin only. Bagwell and the Houston Astros screwed again. F*** the BBWAA. He only got 56%. What a joke.
41.7% of vote last year to 56% this year. Progress...I guess. Ha. Will have to wait another year, maybe two or three.
For some reason as cool as it would be for Bagwell and Biggio to go in together, I think they each deserve their own day. Biggio will be a first-ballot lock next year and with Bagwell ignorantly being denied this season at 56%, the vote progression says it may be another 2 years before he gets in. He will though.
True...but Bagwell is not one of those that's in the class of players who took 10-15 years to get in. He's a first ballot type and there are writers holding him off until he proves his innocence. I'm not entirely sure how one proves innocence besides never failing a drug test, not being even mentioned in the Mitchell Report, and no evidence from anyone anywhere that he ever did. I'm with this blog in starting a campaign to out supposed plagiarists in the BBWAA.
It doesn't make any sense though, everyone knew about Game 7 vs. Smoltz last year too and he only got 53% of the vote. Sportswriters are such morons.
what do I need to do to get certified? Can I put it on my resume? Astros up 14 to 2 against the pirates in the 8th inning.. 10th string pitcher on the mound.. bagwell deep to left field for a homer... postseason career: 2 home runs.. We let this guy in and we might need to let the bad news bears in the yellow and orange seats from the dome. Heck might as well out jose CRUUUUZZ in there , bartman etc.. Come on guys I know this is a houston board.. but its not the 'hall of pretty good' Biggio maybe.. mods please close this thread..it's sad
