So if Yates takes us to the AFC championship game, do we trade Schaub?

You might be looking at this the wrong way. Kubiak is saving TJ from himself. If he uncorked TJ, odds are those stats would nosedive.

Nothing special, except a top 10 QB rating for 4 years running.

That is what i said, might be for good reason, but who knows?
A couple of those passes could be long gains or touchdowns, and they also could be INT's.

I don't judge off of numbers. I look at the game and the plays that are left on the field. Yes he has helped us win games, but he has been in the system a longer time. And what happened last year when our D sucked. The offense only showed up only one half every game.
Not gonna make this a bash Schaub or TJ dicussion, because I like them both, it's just Schaub has not shown me anything special other than being a good above average QB. As i said he is better than TJ right now, but trading should be up for dicussion if Texans win the Superbowl with TJ is all I'm saying.

Kubiak is paid to know. It's up to the coaches to know what his QB is capable of. If you feel he doesn't even know how to call a game for Yates, then you have to start a "Fire Kubiak" thread. So do it. Start a fire Kubiak thread for him being a horrible judge of QB and horrible playcaller. Because that's what you're basically implying.

Huh. First off I don't start threads. I read them and if it is a respectful thread, then and only then do I post.
And lets not get on Kubiac because it has been enough of that around here, and sorry but I don't get negative. I never said Kubiac didn't know what he was doing. Learn to read.

Your thread should have ended here. Sorry, man - you can’t fill your post with all the things Schaub does poorly if, at the outset, you proclaim him (several times, in fact) to be the better QB. That would mean Yates does everything even worse.

Then I’m going to guess you watch games with your eyes closed.

This is purely anecdotal and counter to what a boatload of statistics tell us – that Schaub throws accurately downfield as well as any other QB in football.

Yes, there’s a reason for that.

That’s because Yates is averaging nearly a yard less per pass attempt; ie he’s throwing much shorter, safer passes.

I think we have a pretty decent idea, in terms of where he is now. He takes too many sacks and turns the ball over way too much. If given more pass attempts, he would very likely take even more sacks and turn the ball over even more frequently.

This idea that Kubiak needs to "unleash" TJ Yates is so silly. He's a 5th round rookie third stringer; I think people have forgotten that.

Actually, you are, and it’s rather silly to do so.

I hope Yates can build on this year and be an heir apparent. But he’s not in Schaub’s class. Look no further than the points/game – not a coincidence they dropped by 10 – 10! – when Schaub went down.

I disagree. I think the end of this season proved TJ Yates will become our #2.

No Yates will always be a glorified 3rd string QB, just horrible decision making... maybe experience will make him better, but jesus some of those throws were either just Jacoby Jones level thinking or Kubiak's playcalling at its finest..

Kubiak did not tell him to throw it into double and triple coverage.

But had Kubiak told him NOT to throw it, the board would be screaming that Gary is "holding him back!".

The gameplan should have been to exploit the underneath routes and stay away from Ed Reed deep... but Yates continued to go for the HR.

Exactly, this team completely abandoned Arian Foster and the TE attack in the middle of the field... we had plenty of time and 2 Time outs.........

No reason to hate on Yates, he did about as well as you can expect. Can't think of any late round back-ups that have come in and truly excelled that were actual rookies, much less locked out their rookie year. Guys like Brady, Romo, Flynn had at least a whole year to groom their games at this level. He was drafted as a project and hopefully we''ll be able to treat him as one for the next few years. He doesn't have a big arm and has exhibited poor decision-making (typical for a rookie), but he's mobile and has shown a lot of poise thus far. He certainly has been better than Blaine Gabbert so far (not saying much), and not any worse than Christian Ponder. Don't know that he's clearly the "future", but I think he's got a shot to be.

Foster and the TE's still ran their routes... Yates just tried to force it downfield one too many times.

Would you rather Kubiak restrict him from throwing downfield and make Yates check down to the safe TE and RB routes?
