I was always under the impression that "Lee High School" is set in greater Austin. granted, many small Texas towns had a moontower, but the landscape and locations used seem to point in the direction of Austin more than Huntsville, unless I am missing any geographical clues. they mention Houston as the location for the Aerosmith concert and to me, the final shot on the freeway screams 290 east bound... as for the OP's original request, I just don't think there is one definitive movie that defines the mindset or captures some quintessential thing about being a houstonian.
