So at the end of the game when there is a decision to be made, who makes it? Do they have a conference on the sideline?
PAY THIS MAN! Make it not worth it to leave! Give him $1 less than Kubiak and call it a day. Tandem coaching, I dig it.
Offer to double his salary or match his salary that is offered to him by a prospective team interested in making him their head coach. If he still leaves then I'll be a believer that money doesn't play a role in his aspirations.
At this point don't care if he is gone. Concerned that he, his staff and players are prepared for Baltimore. Texans will not score much, but defense is capable of shutting down Ravens. This is a winnable game.. Let's hope he doesn't pull a Sumlin and let it become a distraction.
It doesn't bother me that he's interviewing with the Bucs (in Houston)....what irritates me is all the self promotion, and that he's been using John McClain is a mouthpiece for it following the Division clinch and now again after the playoff win. Not a coincidence. It says a lot about him as a person and where his loyalties lie. He doesn't want to stay here, he wants to be head coach elsewhere. Maybe he did think that Kubiak might get canned and he'd take over the team after a season. Regardless, he's made it crystal clear that being DC for the Texans is not what he wants to do next season. I say fine. I'd rather he stay on as DC, but since day 1 I've been scared ****less that he's Kubiak's successor in waiting. I still am. I'd rather the scenario that a Cowher level HC follow the Kubiak era than Wade, than keep Wade with the understanding that he will eventually be our next HC. The downside is...how will the team look to replace Wade? Try and promote a Phillips underling (didn't work so hot against Panthers and Colts)? With the D so white hot, you can't bring in someone with a significantly different scheme....but there's precious few folks out there that use this hybrid 5-2 Tiger. Wade's free to do what's right for him, I'm just disappointed that he's being so pro-active in finding his next gig when we need him the most.
I guess Wade never heard of the Peter Principle. The old dude should be happy he's successful and not threatened with firing, getting paid, living where he is revered and not reviled and doesn't have to give those weekly press conferences that he is so god-awful at.
Bucs also interviewing Marty Schottenheimer... who actually would be a pretty decent fit there, provided he has it in him for another reclamation project. I'd say Wade is a long-shot third place candidate to get the job right now. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7441839/tampa-bay-buccaneers-talk-marty-schottenheimer-sources-say
Exactly. I'm glad someone seems to get it. That said, the only reason Tampa makes me nervous is that they're notoriously cheap, and given that Wade is desperate, he would accept a minimal offer. Even so, other retread candidates like Sherman and Schottenheimer seem almost as desperate, so it remains a longshot.
Tampa and Jacksonville were always my two biggest concerns. They're both cheap, mostly irrelevant franchises that struggle to draw top talent, primarily because they refuse to pay top talent. Jeff Fisher was never going to go to Tampa, for instance. I hope Wade isn't so desperate that he's blinded; I think he's much better off as a DC in Houston than he is trying to win as a HC in Tampa.
Where do you think Kubiak is going? Even the hardcore Kubiak haters from last year (like me) have no ammo whatsoever to want him gone after this year. Guy has coached his ASS off this year.
[rquoter]I think its a compliment. We know his track record. I look at it different. It is a compliment to the defensive staff and our defensive players. We're proud that any chance our coaches get. Wont be a distraction. It is a compliment. (On fans being mad that TB is interviewing now while in the playoffs): Thats just part of it. There is a window where they have to ask for permission and you try to make it work. Nothing changes with our schedule. [/rquoter]
Eff that. If I'm Bob McNair, I tell Malcolm Glazer and Co. to go fly a kite until the playoffs are officially over for us. To me, it's unprofessional and insulting to expect the Texans to allow their Defensive Head Coach an interview in the biggest week of the franchise's history. We need 100% of his focus and dedication right now, and if they don't like it, too bad. If Wade truly was their White Knight, and they thought he was the Savior for their team, the Bucs would be willing to wait an extra (at most) 3 weeks for Phillips to be free. For them to come in 2 days before the biggest game of our lives is thoroughly selfish.
What if that's not what he enjoys? He doesn't need money or job security. His next job might be his last anyway. He's proven everything there is to prove at the DC level. Maybe he wants the challenge? He has a fantastic record as a head coach, with only 1 losing season (I think) and lots of playoff appearances after taking over mediocre teams. Maybe he wants to try to prove he's better than his reputation. There are lots of factors for any particular person. There's no reason he has to follow the path that everyone else thinks he should.
Yes, and also thank goodness Bob McNair owned his *Jim Rome* ASS off too finally, putting Kubiak and others jobs on the line and putting urgency into the franchise
Damn, with the age of all the candidates I think they are looking for someone is an actual ex Bucaneer, lol. I still dont think Wade will be their pick, I think he will stay here.
