This is under the assumption most people are interested in love/romance/sex in one way or another. I deduct that Holmes views sex as a Neanderthalway of finding pleasure and/or getting ones way.

Holmes is interested in none of that and it has been suggested directly from Holmes comments and others.

Adler is an an exception. It seems as if Holmes looks down on women and sees them as inferior. Adler piqued his attention not because of her looks or promiscuity, but do to her intelligence.

If it is any indication, I once saw Holmes look at Dumbledore and roll his eyes while mumbling, "That wizard is such a b****".....

I'll have to dig around to find some of the interviews from when this incarnation of Holmes aired, but I believe that insinuating Holmes was gay was intentional on the part of the writers/producers.

I stand corrected. I read a number of online articles, and this one summed it up pretty well:

    http://www.digitalspy.com/british-t...805/cumberbatch-moffat-sherlocks-not-gay.html

A more gay friendly article that gives quotes from the pilot that would make one think Holmes/Watson are gay (but the actor and one of the writers denies) is here:

I just read some of Wikipedia's rather excellent write up of Sherlock Holmes (the character, not this particular show), and they do mention Asperger's/autism, in addition to a couple of other mental health issues that were speculated upon.

this is an excerpt of that article:

"Holmes's emotional state/mental health has been a topic of analysis for decades. At their first meeting in A Study in Scarlet, the detective warns Watson that he gets "in the dumps at times" and doesn't open his "mouth for days on end". Many readers and literary experts[citation needed] have suggested Holmes showed signs of manic depression, with moments of intense enthusiasm coupled with instances of indolent self absorption. Other modern readers have speculated that Holmes may have Asperger's syndrome based on his intense attention to details, lack of interest in interpersonal relationships and tendency to speak in long monologues.[20] The detective's isolation and near-gynophobic distrust of women is said to suggest the desire to escape; Holmes "biographer" William Baring-Gould and others, including Nicholas Meyer, author of the Seven Percent Solution, have implied a severe family trauma (i.e., the murder of Holmes's mother) may be the root cause."

The entire write up, in case anyone's interested, is here:

Definitely not gay. You can tell by his facial expressions in that scene.

He is almost too intellectual when it comes to women. Irene Adler is the only one that truly interests and stimulates him intellectually.

Thanks for posting this thread and turning me on to a fantastic show guys.

I think it's only being shown in England right now, it won't be broadcast here for a few more months. But I don't know if a new episode was shown this week or not.

I believe Season 1 is now on Netflix streaming, if anyone is looking to get started with this series.

It was solid. Not as good as the first, but not bad. Funnier gay jokes in this episode.

The woman is saved and lost, the hound is slain - now there is only the fall. You have one week to brace yourselves...

    Hounds of Baskerville:

Alright episodes, a few good moments, lol a 'mind palace'. I'd already forgotten what most of the original was about, but still guessed it was
the gas that was causing hallucinations
. I do like the new military shine on it, but it makes Sherlock seem a bit to....mainstream? If that's the right word? But there's the next episode, the Fall!

    Just an awesome show.

The last episode was great, though I'm not sure they will ever be able to top the Irene Adler episode. That thing was just godly. One of the best episodes of anything I have ever watched.

I wish I could watch like 500 straight hours of this show, lol.

They make him as gay as they can without getting in trouble. Producers seems to think that gays are the new "cute kid" of the 90's or short black guy of the 80's. The problem is they cannot make Holmes gay because they will lose rights to him. Holmes is not public domain.
