Please don't turn this into a bashing Tim Tebow thread. The Houston Texans are the Cinderella Story of the NFL. They've faced daunting adversity losing franchise (Schaub, Johnson, Foster, Mario) and necessary (Leinart, Manning, Hartmann). Despite the misfortunes, they have demonstrated unity, grace and camaraderie. This 'team-first' mentality is very rare and truly inspiring. While I am impressed and would've loved witnessing Tim Tebow's epic season unfold any other year, I'm frustrated to not see the Texans receive any of the praise and respect they rightly deserve. Do you think Tim Tebow is stealing the Texans Cinderella Story?
At this point, I'm used to having any Houston sports franchise being overlooked by national media. While I do believe what the Texans have done is incredible, the fact that Tebow continues to pull off these miracle wins is just unbelievable despite having his quarterback skills constantly questioned. It's crazy to believe that Tebow managed to become bigger than the franchise he plays for.
Absolutely they're stealing both airtime that could be dedicated to the Texans, AND the hearts of the masses who want to follow an underdog team. I voted for A, though, I think we'll become that team if the Tebows lose and we're able to squeak it out against the Ravens. However, like all Houston sports, we never get a lot of attention, and we'll live without it. From my point of view: I'm in Utah at school right now living with a Denver roommate, so we watch Houston and Denver sports. He likes the Texans, I watch the Broncos for the fun of it. The rest of Utah, being fairly neutral, is Tebow land. That part is annoying.
i'd rather this team stay disrespected. keeps them level headed and makes sure they don't buy into the hype and become complacent.
please, it wouldn't have mattered if Denver lost. we're still gonna be behind the Steelers, Ravens, and Pats when it comes to the media.
This!! well said. Our Cities greastest champion said it best: "Stay Humble, Stay Hungry" Keep the media attention, we'll take the rings!
Yes, a great twist on this story would be for both underdogs to win and face each other in the AFC Championship Game. The wealth of media overexposure for the Broncos would have to be shared, and our own story (every bit as compelling as the overblown Tebow thing), would be deservedly right up there in the spotlight. And, of course, once the Texans won that matchup....well...
so much for that, Primetime just gave foster's clark kent outfit, outfit of the year! take that tebow!!
This thread makes no sense. Denver just beat arguably the best AFC team as 9 point underdogs. The Texans just beat a slightly above average Cincinnati team as 3 point favorites. Why shouldn't they get the attention? I can see being annoyed if the situation was reversed. Say the Texans just beat Pittsburg and Tebow barely edged out Cincy. Yes, then if the national media kept proping Tebow you can feel slighted. But as of right now Denver and Tebow deserve every bit of attention they're receiving. This will continue for as long as they win. Even if the Texans beat Baltimore, if the Denver beats NE they'd still be the cinderella story. I know we get slighted at times with regards to the national media, but in this case the national media has the right story.
Let Denver get all the attention. I'd much rather be the team that's overlooked but just keeps coming out on top when it matters.
Hate to say it, but Denver has the more interesting story. We have the better team though. That's all I care about.
that steeler team that tebow faced with all the injuries they had was nowhere near the best AFC team. maybe with a healthy big ben, ryan clark, maurkice pouncey, brett keisel, and casey hampton.
I get where you're coming from but Steelers have looked like crap ever since Big Ben went down..the guy can hardy run. I mean they barely beat the Browns.. Add to that Mendinhall getting injured last week and Clark not being able to play because of the whole sickle cell altitude situation. Only reason the Broncos were such underdogs because they've looked worse during their last 3 regular season games (actually 4 but Marion Barber is dumb).
I'm used to it by now. I actually feel uncomfortable when the media praises us and expects us to do something, plus it's more fun to root for the underdog. but I'm positive that next season we'll be getting a lot of national recognition if everything goes smooth and we are a top afc contender.
