So if Yates takes us to the AFC championship game, do we trade Schaub?

I've got a good feeling about Yates. Could he be the next Tom Brady? Late round pick, good team around him, QB injury...what similarities haha

Either way, I think the starting spot should be under review this upcoming season.

Disclaimer: I've never been a huge fan of Schaub and think he's just an average QB made better by the talent around him (think Matt Ryan).

You don't trade the better QB. I think Yates stock will be highest it could ever be. The Texans might get a 1st round pick for him.

Bledsoe was better than Brady, when he got benched. I guess the question becomes whether you see franchise QB potential in him so far...

Short of winning the Super Bowl, I don't see why the Texans would ditch Matt Schaub. No slight against TJ, but the Texans were legitimate SB contenders with Schaub. They'll probably be legitimate SB contenders next season with Schaub healthy.

I also don't think Schaub is an elite QB but if you're going to make the argument that the team elevates Schaub's play, then you have make the same argument for Yates. Other than the game where he tebowed the Bengals in the 4th quarter, Yates hasn't shown the ability to be anything but a game-manager thus far. The team is better off with a healthly Schaub than Yates.

That being said Yates is doing a fantastic job for a rookie who didn't even dress until week 10.

QB rating of the QBs compared here.

Bledsoe: 75, 77, 75 in the 2 1/8 seasons leading up to his injury.
Brady: 86 in his rookie year

Schaub: 98, 92, 96 in the 2 5/8 seasons leading up to his injury.
Yates: 80 in his rookie year.

Your comparison is so bad it's not even funny.

I think it's quite clear, with the exception of the last game, that this offense is so much better with Shaub in the game.

Unless Yates tears it up in the next 3 games, which is highly unlikely, Schaub starts without question. This offense was explosive with Schaub.

It isn't as though it's one or the other. Schaub's team next year, Yates can back him up. If yates looks good enough, and Schaub doesn't get the job done next year, let Schaub go and hand the reins to TJ.

Yates is cheap and locked up for a few years, see how he develops, but Schaub is better right now.

But your survey is incomplete, if Yates leads us to the Superbowl and a win, there will be a serious discussion to be had.

Really the only question is what post-football career is Matt Leinert looking at? Reality TV star? Club promoter? Football analyst?

If Yates plays well next week, and the Texans win, the QB controversy will officially begin.

These threads are so predictable. Yates is doing a serviceable job and he potentially has a future as the texans full-time starter but Schaub is the unbelievably obvious best option going into next year. We'd have to win the superbowl BECAUSE of TJ Yates for Schaub to be expendable.

Trade Schaub, and then when we lost three straight, WE NEED TO KEEP SCHAUB, better start Delhomme.

    Eaaaaaaaaaaaaasy there.

It would be idiotic to get to the superbowl and not have a QB controversy.

If TJ has the balls to make it through Baltimore and NE, on the road, during the playoffs...then youve got an intangible set of balls that you probably dont have in Schaub.

If TJ leads us to win the SB I'm all for trading Schaub. He can get us first round pick at least.

Free agent after next season. Offense is definitely better with Schaub in, but what is Yates missing? Experience? Depends on how Yates plays against Baltimore and (hopefully) beyond that. Could get tricky after next season if the Texans just let Schaub walk or resign him. Get value while you can.

Just enjoying it all now though....

Here are some facts...TJ has a stronger arm and is more mobile than Schaub.

TJ's deficiencies, in my opinion, come mostly from inexperience. Learning to read the defense is something he will need to continue to develop and improve upon. For instance, the pass that Crocker almost intercepted yesterday...that was just something that can be worked on with time and experience.

He's got he arm strength and pocket awareness...and he most definitely has the confidence. He just needs to develop his skills with play time.

I think if he shows, in this playoffs, that he is more than capable, then you have to seriously think about getting something in return for either schaub or TJ. Look at what the Bengals were compensated for Palmer. That would be great to pull more than a first round pick for either QB.

He really hasn't been that good. Its been our running game and defense.
