AND, more importantly, the guy has not given out any bad contracts. As in none. I can't think of another GM in the league (except Petrie in OKC) who has been on the job as long as Morey and not given out at least one terrible debilitating long term contract. Look before you leap, as the saying goes. It is a very rare thing to find a GM who shows the patience and foresight that Morey does -- and, honestly, those two traits are the most important things about managing the roster of a team.
Fire Morey.... two words.... TRACK RECORD Where has he failed in any transaction?? Im sure the same people who want to fire Morey still want Ed Wade as GM for the Astros..
Its not the trades as much as the frequency and the constant swirls of the trades. When they had the yao ming minute rule he hated it. He would rather not play a player unless he can play regular minutes. You think adelman came up with rules in regards to handling mrady and yao? I've followed adelmans career for awhile, its not trades of vets that is his issue, trust me on that. He didn't have a problem working lee into the regular rotation. The williams early season trade was a problem. Why would he have a problem with rubio back then but he doesn't have a problem now? I've said many times his strategy of getting the 09 draft guys is worth it, but if you don't open up time by trading some vets, then its a waste. The guys who might have the biggest upside, thabeet and williams, should be playing 25 mins a night. Hill and patterson should be playing a lot of minutes also. They don't and won't because dalembert was signed and scola and martin are on the roster playing majority of the mins.
Ive said it from the beginning. But Daryl Morey needs to be fired. The Rockets are a poorly assembled team who have absolutley no balance between offense and defense. The ONLY reason Morey was able to mask the multiple holes on this team was because of Rick Adelman. Now that Adelman's gone, it's more obvious the Rockets arent nearly as good as Rosolian, or any other clutchfan poster would like to think. I tried my hardest to tell you guys two years go. But some of you REFUSED to listen to anything that didnt support Morey being jesus. It's only right the truth come to light
if our goal is to win even without a star, Portland and Denver are making us look bad in that department
Adleman isn't gone because of Morey. Not in my opinion. He's gone because of Alexander, who wanted a more verbose and photogenic coach, one good for quotes and video clips on Sportscenter. Someone tell me what McHell is doing right? And how this situation falls at Morey's feet? I just don't believe he's responsible, although he may ultimately pay the price when Alexander looks for a scapegoat for the team's failure to win.
Honestly, what would firing more do? Who do we bring it to make this team reputable again? Its easy to say that morey or les is the problem, but honestly who would we bring in to do a better job? You want CD back or something?...
Alexander's at fault for arrogantly trusting Morey over Adelman. The Rocket have been bottom level talent for about 2 years. The ONLY reason we've been competitive is because of Adelman. Morey's got all the credit when it should've went to the coach who had his players ready every night to play (even though we were outmatched every night). Morey gets blame because he put this ridiculous crap of a team together. Mchale gets blame because he has Bud defending Durant one on one. And Mr Alexander gets blame for being the idiot who hired Morey
Rossas- Has been player at every level of management. Is a basketball guy with relationships through the league.
the day rockets fire Morey, is the same day that i will celebrate like a mad person. god, he is awful.
If you look at Morey's move it is very hard to say he hasn't done a great job. He has gotten a lot of the picks he has been given, has not taken on any bad contracts, and has yet to get robbed in a trade. He didn't trade for TMac and he didn't draft Yao; he just got stuck with them and did the best he could with $40MM on the sidelines. Until he makes a horrendous trade or passes up a great player in the draft I can't justify firing him.
Cant blame him with injuries to TMAC and YAO - he actually put a pretty good support cast around them by the end but the two of them just couldnt stay fit. And then he just got screwed by Stern hardcore. There are far far worse GMs out there.
What was the one thing both JVG and RA were doing before they were replaced, they were both yapping to the media.
Sure. Let's talk about the word result. Name a single GM that has gotten better "result" 1-2 years after having 2 all-stars and $40 mil go down the drain.
A "single" GM with better results? Don't have the time or inclination. But I'll bet there are more examples out there than you'll give credit. The Cav's lost LeBum...sucked mightly for one year...got rid of that terrible Danny Ferry...and are now 4-3 and likely going to the EC Playoffs. Morey? Loses McGrady... gets a #8 pick in a deep draft...and comes back with a pot of glue. And expects McGrady's back....unlike those of millions of other Americans...to never flare up again. Yet the "Morey is god" contingent still gives hm a free pass for losing two All Stars. Classic "don't bother me with the facts...my mind is made up" logic. And that doesn't even address the questionable and unproven theory of collecting "assets" to trade for a star.
