They should. The guy still doesn't rebound or play defense worth a lick.

And I still remember this board proclaiming Amare > Bosh. LOL

New York pathetically, tries desperately to stay relevant in some capacity.... I cant stand NYKers and there delusional fans..... They did all that excessive hoopla to get Anthony and now they want people to believe they can get someone else.....

They got Amare, Melo, and Chandler. All are players the Rockets were after too.

The Knicks will offer Stoudemire (whose knee is uninsurable) AND . . . ?

They don't have any first round picks to offer. They traded all of them to Houston and Denver.

And what do the Knicks do with Howard and Chandler in the same lineup? Chandler's trade value (given his age, contract size and injury issues) is not exactly going to net the Knicks a ton of great talent.

If anything, the Knicks would have to offer Stoudemire and Chandler for Howard and Orlando's bad contracts, further depleting the Knicks of any depth.

Yeah, good luck with that, New York.

But I thought New York got the free agents because they were loyal to those they signed unlike us.

The Rockets and almost every other team in the NBA, also.

Good for the Magic that another team enters the bidding, but they aren't stupid enough to accept Amare + his contract + injury history. Amare is borderline untradeable to anyone and they are stuck with him.

I repeat: Tying up $35 million/year between Amare and Chandler was just plain stupid, especially with Melo coming in at another $20 million. Knicks quickly put themselves back in salary cap jail with the rash signing of Chandler. All those years of being trash so they could rebuild has been wasted.

Even if Otis Smith is on crack and makes the trade, the idea of Chandler and Howard on the same team is insane. Obviously the Knicks would try to move Chandler over the summer, but since they overpaid, it would be difficult to get value in return.

I feel sorry for Knicks fans, who are great.

The Knicks got Amare (an A-/B+ level free agent, given the star-studded free agent class of 2010) only after bending over and giving up a ton of assets to the Rockets. Unfortunately, the 2011 pick swap didn't work out (although the Rockets WOULD have moved up a few spots in the draft had Houston just won a few more games and snuck into the playoffs), but the limited protections on the pick swap and 2012 pick showed how desperate the Knicks were for that cap room.

The Knicks also got Melo in large part because James Dolan undercut Donnie Walsh and gave up WAYYYY too much to get Melo. It was quite possible that Walsh could have eventually gotten Melo while still keeping 1-2 of Chandler, Gallinari or Mozgov. You can see now how badly the Knicks could use any of those guys for depth.

The Knicks got Chandler but amnesty cutting Chauncey Billups, whose partially guaranteed final year they had JUST agreed to make fully guaranteed, resulting in a $10M waste of money. Then, they traded away Turiaf (one of the few quality role players on their roster) to overpay for Chandler (yes, I realize that ANY team was going to overpay Chandler after last season's performance). On top of that, in order to pay Chandler an extra few hundred thousand bucks or so (literally THAT small), they gave a huge TPE to Dallas by doing a S&T of Andy Rautins for Chandler.

Stupid roster management with each move. The Knicks have no one but themselves to blame for their lack of depth. They maybe could have had at least 2 of those 3 guys PLUS Chauncey Billups, a bunch of depth and a decent amount of cap room in 2012.

Now the "fans" at the Garden will start chanting "We want Dwight" at every home game. They never should've traded for Melo. They gutted their team for him, and turned Amare into a glorified role player. On top of that, Melo's contract extension puts a stranglehold on the franchise and won't allow them to get any depth on the roster beyond vet minimum type guys, aka ring chasers.

...for Rashard Lewis's abortion of a contract.

The Knicks are asking for Dwight freakin' Howard!

I'm not saying that Stoudemire has no trade value. He's a very good player. But he's a major injury risk (both on the court and financially, due to the uninsurability of his knee); and, more importantly, the Knicks have little ELSE to offer. That was my point.

I can see GSW getting involved in that trade talk to nab Chandler by offering Ellis and a 2013 1st rd (top-12 protection) and a 2012 2nd rd pick (top 40-protected) for Chandler and Fields. The bay area fans would love to see Fields play for them.

    Magic trade: D12, Hedo, Reddick
Get: GSW 2013 1st, Amare, Ellis, Kwame (exp. contract)

GSW trade: Ellis, 2013 1st (top-12 protection), 2012 2nd rd pick (top-40 protection), Kwame (exp. contract)
    Get: Chandler, Fields

    Knicks trade: Chandler, Amare, Fields
Get: D12, Hedo, GSW 2012 2nd rd pick

Aren't the Knicks stuck with Chandler the whole season since they just signed him? My bet is the Magic trade Howard before the deadline. Holding and waiting is too risky.

I don't think the Magic will get that lucky.

I think it is March 1st when you can trade a recently signed player (maybe wrong on that), and the trade deadline is March 15. And yea I'd at least get something in return that can allow you to keep making potential moves.

    Thanks.

I wonder how the Knicks players feel about the organization already giving up on the team.

Howard IS a top 2-3 player. Technically, EVERY team should try to trade for him, regardless of the odds.

I don't think it's NY giving up on the team, but more trying to get better. You can't fault them for that. Howard >> Amare point blank.
