At least we have one non-soft player on the team.

And if the ref was a man, would this have even made it to court?

If I was the girl and Lowry threw the ball at me and he apologized then I wouldnt press charges. I would just accept the apology and leave it at that

If the ref was a man, this wouldn't have been known by anyone other than those at the scene.

Kyle just earned a lot of street cred with the NBA players..."Dude, did you really bean a ref in a pick-up game....you're my hero."

but...let's see how Violet Palmer calls our next game.

Are you the girl? If you look at it from her point of view, she can make some cash.

This whole situation is just dirty.

Kyle apparently acting like an ass, and then as ass trying to cash in on it.

I threw my jersey at a ref during a college intramural game. In a no dunking league, members of the D-1 football team dunked against us. Then one of the players on my team dunked on the very next play and got a technical.

I thought the ref was being blatantly biased and unfair and proceeded to berate him and he subsequently tossed me from the game. I threw my temporary jersey in his face as I left the court.

I guess that I should have been charged with criminal battery? Give me a break. A hard foul in a pick-up game is now a matter for courts? Anyone who's played has seen it. A reckless non-basketball foul delivered after a disagreement.

This is not a criminal matter and most likely could never be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Did she see him throw the ball? What is the criminal evidence in this case? My guess is that the evidence is extremely shaky. It's unlikely that Vegas could compel an out of state witness like Maggette to testify for such a minor charge.

This charge is an insult to actual victims of violence.

Barry Warner said it best. "I know it's impossible, but she needs to grow a pair!"

This is almost as ridiculous as the woman who sued over the movie trailer for "Drive" because there wasn't enough driving in it. The judge should fine her as well for wasting everyone's time

Exactly! This is also an insult to any women wanting to be accepted as referees for male sports.

Battery? She got hit by a basketball. Wow. Give him 25 to life.
She didn't even have the decency to attempt to settle this privately beforehand? What a b****.
Lowry would have paid her to keep her mouth shut and keep this out of public eye.

I always knew Lowry had an anger problem. Dude used that on the court to motivate himself. He let himself slip in a meaningless pick up game... and this b**** wants to capitalize on that.

Nope - they are filed. It is now up to the DA. The DA can drop the charges, but the victim can not. Since there are other witnesses the DA no longer needs the testimony of the victim. If they think they can win, and because it is high profile, they may very well decide to proceed.

It's a big feather in their cap to prosecute an NBA player.

If it were a man the case would be dismissed. Because a female claims she was hit with a ball "at high speed" (what a ****ing lob?) she will get the benefit of the doubt.

If I was there in the heat of the moment while it was happening no it wouldn't be ok because I would also be caught up in it. But after knowing the circumstances afterward (like they appear here) and to know that he gave a sincere apology I would accept it and expect them to do the same.
