If Artest, Jackson or someone did it my response would be the same.. I think it is weak to file criminal charges against someone for throwing a basketball but legally he did break the law. I doubt that he will get jail time.

Maybe he simply made a mistake which he apologized for. Just like your doing for judging him without knowing the facts.
I've had a ball throw at me at "a high rate of speed" many times. Wonder what my chance of a successful battery case is.
I doubt he will get jail time for throwing a basketball at someone. Clearly there is not intent to cause grave bodily harm there. I imagine he will be able to get off with a fine and community service, especially if he is contrite, which seems the case. The Rockets should take the initiative and ask him to take anger management courses or something, and Lowry would be even wiser to just do that on his own. But I don't think this will blow up too big. It's his first strike. Still, a disheartening sign. I hope he realizes his mistake and adjusts.

This thing is so dumb. "The suspect knowingly threw a basketball at her after the game ended for calls he didn't agree with. The victim and both witnesses believe that his intent was to hurt her and that he could have hurt anyone of them by his actions." OMG HE'S GOT A BASKETBALL! EVERYONE HIDE FOR COVERS! SOMEONE SHOOT DOWN THAT MANIAC!
We're not debating that. First as a general comment, in a frenzied state of mind people will say dumb things. Now, in this situation, Lowry was playing a game he has played all his life. In the vast, vast majority of the officiated games he's played, he was officiated by a man. What I'm suggesting is that even though he realizes that he was dealing with a woman, part of his brain was perhaps conditioned to treat this referee like a man. So, in an unthinking moment when he's trying to vent or intimidate, maybe something comes out that he wouldn't ordinarily say to a woman. He should be embarrassed by it. But I think it means he has a temper that he needs to control better, not that he's somehow more inclined to fight women.
So if a man threatens to fight your mother/sister/daughter/wife and offers an apology, it's all good with you? I'm not judging him. I guess you missed the part that said "we don't know the facts, but IF he did this". Now IF he did challenge a woman to a fight, then yes, I think he sucks as a man. Then I would be judging him.
The case can be made that female referees don't want to be treated any different than their male counterparts.....equality goes both ways.....there will be less protection
In further news a guy robs a bank by passing the teller a note that says, "hand over your money now or I'll throw my basketball at you!" I love your quote to funny
If he threw the ball at her and she didn't do anything ok but she threw it right back at him. but like everybody else is saying its all for the money
once money has exchanged hands between Kyle and the woman I doubt the case will even make it to court.
