Maybe he was just playing with her and the realize she wasn't playing, so he apologized? I just can't see this happening either. I know he's no angel and tries to be professional in the spotlight, but it just seems like too much, especially because he does normally keep himself in check. I'd expect something worse to set him off.

This case will be dismissed. Referees aren't people, therefore they cannot be battered.

Why does it matter in this context where Lowry got pissed off at a referee?

Who cares she's a ref. Battery charges for throwing a ball at someone. What a waste of tax payers time and money.

Of course the other refs will corroborate her story. Doesn't even matter what really happened.

My dad got in a spat with a female garbage woman and the same thing happened; the only two witnesses were her co-workers, and of course they corroborated her story. Class A misdemeanor and the DA wouldn't even give a plea starting out. 6 months later the charges were dropped because of her ridiculously long rap sheet. We're not rich by any means, but the prospect of any jail time period was a huge stressor and emotional drain for the entire family while it was on our heads.

Lowry's got the money to do whatever he wants, buy his way out of any more trouble or fight this tooth and nail in the legal system. I say he should fight it just to prove a point to all those money-grubbers out there who salivate at the prospect of having a NBA star on the ropes. Regardless of what happened. To the best of our knowledge, he has no criminal record and a standout reputation. He should work to maintain that standing; who cares what happens to his stats in the NBA this year.

    Because he hit the ref.

Hitting a woman and hitting a man draws two different reactions. I didn't know that was hard to figure out

    Two questions:

    (1) Would the same charge apply if it was a male referee?
    (2) If not, isn't there a clear argument against allowing female referees in men sports?

Kyle is tanking his own trade value so he can stay in Houston.

This is the big elephant in the room...don't agree with the language but I'm sure male refs have been told much worse.

We have all lost our cool at one point or another. He did not swing at her. He didnt throw point blank we will assume. We have all cussed at someone which is not illegal. It was most likely an empty threat spoken with emotion.

That's a mix of ignorant, dumb and sexist. There are tons of women who could kick men's asses. If women and men are truly equal, then the ability of a woman should mirror that of a man. If it draws a different reaction between the two then you must be a sexist who believes woman can't be as strong as men. Thats all kinds of messed up.

Since other NBA players were present, it'll be interesting to hear what they say occurred.
