Morey on 610 just confirmed how the bigs are getting in the way of the offense. McHale's flex offense and Adelman's "corner offense" need bigs out high who can accept the ball and move it...at least. Hayes couldn't shoot out there but he moved the ball correctly and learned to take a few dribbles to the lane to pass as well. Hayes is not your perfect high post player, but he learned to pass and attack when the defense did not respect him. If you think this is a PnR offense...then you are not watching the weak side and the opponent defense. The Flex has many options...one is to keep the ball on the strong side and move to PnR or low post because the weakside broke down. This is not a PnR offense. This is flex with no trust in the weakside. Hill can't do anything and Morey basically said he is getting in the way.
Thanks for the analysis. I don't have your tactical knowledge of the offense, just a feeling that stuff was getting gummed up. There's just been a certain awkwardness to the team without Chuck. Perhaps it's not exactly right to call Chuck the "Glue Guy." He's more of a "Lubricant Guy."
I've always said that Chuck's offensive value was grossly underrated. Oh, and I thought signing Dalembert and not "the undersized center" was supposed to shore up the defense. The Rockets in the last two games looked like a merge of JVG team without good defenders and Adelman team without good offensive players.
Thank you for the analysis, heypartner. I don't know the different offenses but appreciate the quick lesson....just wish the post were about how awesome our new offense was, and not describing how poorly it is being executed at the moment. Last night was painful to watch (for the most part).
But the question is whether or not Hill and/or Dalembert or some other big can grasp the offense. Chuck Hayes wasn't Chuck Hayes on offense 4 years ago either. He worked hard, has great BBIQ, and eventually developed his game to be his current self. Jordan Hill does look lost right now. But if McHale and his staff can get Hill/Dalembert to slowly grasp the offense, then we're still fine for the future.
