You know what's funny? I just got laid off, too. Seriously. Not. Even. Kidding. My situation doesnt' involve DeMarcus Cousins, though, just the market condition is such that demand for the services of my practice group has been down in the last year or so. Not really sad about it. I like the guys I work with, but it really has been boring at work without many interesting projects (or boring ones) to work on. Saw it coming. Good opportunity to find some else to do. Maybe I should submit my resume to the Kings.
If you're serious, I'm sorry to hear that. I hate to hear hard working people getting laid off, that sucks. Good luck to you.
Thanks. I am going to stay for a coupel months on a contract basis to complete a project, and a decent enough severance package. So, I got some time to find something else to do. Much better off than a lot of other folks that lost their jobs.
Can I start a thread with title: Carl Herrera gets laid. All in your honor of course. PS: Sorry to hear. Though, many people have made themselves rich from being fired and taking on new opportunities. May God bless.
GREAT move. I am not saying DC is right cause he is a child but they have all the talent to at least battle with teams and they haven't been. They need to find a good one like Adelman
Thanks. Back to the SAC situation: I wonder if this will help everyone focus or be viewed as rewarding Cousins for acting out. Will have to see. BTW, SAC is sort of a cautionary tale for teams "rebuliding by tanking." Even though their high draft picks have talent (Tyreke was ROY), there's just something inherently corrupting about a losing situation that has a chance of ruining the development of even your good draft picks.
SAC is a cautionary tale about drafting head cases. Both Cousins' and Evans' problems predate losing with the Kings. Hell, Cousins' nutcasery goes back to Highschool. The team also seemed to lack a cohesive vision about how to put the parts together to make a cohesive hole. There is more to SAC than problems with tanking.
I guess the question is who they should have drafted instead of Evans and Cousins. Greg Monroe and Paul George, perhaps, instead of Cousins? Remember the 2010 draft was viewed as having a huge drop-off between the top 4-5 guys (Wall, Cousins, Favors, Turner, maybe Johnson) and the rest. And the Kings had the 5th pick. They picked lone remaining guy from the "top" group (who was the remainign guy because of his nuttery). In 2009, Griffin was, I think the one clear top guy (Thabeet was #2 for crying out loud). Who else was there at 4th? Stephen Curry-- and his ankle? Rubio-- and the 2 year wait? Jonny Flynn? Sometimes, having a high pick doesn't really make your job totally easy.
This is key! It is not just the high pick, it is the high pick at the right time. Having number one overall in just the right year is the difference between having a shot at Yao Ming, LeBron James, or Dwight Howard. If you tank, you do it at the right moment, like when the top of the draft is considered to be deeper than normal. Had the Kings tanked in 2008, things may have been different. A second thing is coaching staff and player development. I think teams have to provide the right environment of their players to develop. Now, I am not saying that losing is not corrosive to a team culture. Tanking every year is a bad strategy. But rebuilding at the right moment can be a boon. When that time comes, you just pllay and develop youth while trying to grow the team. Unfortunately, attaining a high draft pick is part of the rebuilding process in this league. Nearly every perennial playoff team has relied on a top pick to draft or trade for their centerpiece player. The only team I can think of that does not fit that role is the Stockton-Malone Jazz. Not using a top pick is the exception to the rule.
Chuck arranged a players-only meeting, because there was no head coach. Coach Smartnot invited to the meeting. The ChuckWagon laying down the rules, already. http://twitter.com/#!/sam_amick/status/155023560853815296
Cousins 1-0 Coaches Bring it on KEITH! They should've brought in a new guy, Cousins was pissed at the entire staff.
