I have been saying since the end of the season last year that lowrys per 40 min stats (if he could increase assists) would make him a top 5 PG. I compared them to every PG last year and really the only guys that were better were westbrook and rose. He is now showing that. With that being said I doubt his value will ever be higher than it is now (specially with his contract)...and with the rockets crazy luck of having players breakout one year then drift into mediocrity the next (see brooks)...it might be wise to capitalize on it now. So the question I pose is...instead of selling Orlando on a trade with us for everyone except lowry and selling Howard on the idea of playing with lowry and lee. What if lowry was the primary piece for the trade for howard? (make a 3 way if needed to get them a center like bargani ) Then once he is acquired we sell him on the no state income tax, youth, moreys ability to find diamonds like lowry...playing with lee and the gravy would be he would acquire D will in the off season or via trade. I am not posting this a random trade idea...but to be a discussion on lowrys value...trade asset or franchise cornerstone?
I dont think I would trade him for that...I am thinking only for a superstar personally...but there are some elite players in this years draft.
http://rockets.clutchfans.net/1503/why-kyle-lowry-could-become-the-next-aaron-brooks/ Chris Paul is off the market. If New Jersey lands Dwight, then the 2012 free agency is over before it ever began. If not, things may get "interesting" with Deron Williams. Other than that, I think Lowry is safe. He's only 25 and he's underpaid. It depends on the caliber of star that becomes available.
Nobody on this team should be untouchable. Lowry is playing great and I love his attitude, but if it benefits the Rockets, go for it.
Well said...prob is I hope lowry doesnt have brooks fall off too!... I read that article but I forgot about it.... clutch, just curious do you see the rockets as a realistic option for howard? I mean to me at this point I think we proved with the (would be) gasol trade we have the assets for it... Do you think daryl goes for broke and takes the gamble of getting howard then trying to sign him and dwill next year?
I think Lowry is the best non rookie contract in the league right now. But if the right deal appears you have to move him.
I don't think his stock has yet peaked...but if he continues with what he is doing, he will generate interest. I would rather part with Martin first or Scola. But I think that a lot will be determined by how things unfold before the trade deadline both in records, trades, draft position, etc.
maybe after the all star game and Lowry kicks ass on the court maybe he is our target to land some players
BTW - I think Lowry's numbers will skyrocket this year as he takes on more responsibility, but the team will probably be worse than it has been in the past. Not because of Kyle but because the offense revolving around one guy is not as efficient and players tend to stand around for fear of getting in his way. DD
No one is untouchable, but Lowry is young and cheap. Unless you think this is just a flash in the pan stretch of play for him, then it is hard to believe you would be able to trade him for someone more valuable than he is, especially considering what he is paid compared to what a superstar will make. Certainly IF trading him for Dwight Howard was a realistic possibility and Howard would still be willing to sign an extension here then you do it, but right now he is playing as well as any PG in the league and has been playing at a similar level for about half a year now. Lowry averaged 16.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, 7.3 assists, 1.1 steals and 2.5 3-pointers after the All-Star break, making Lowry a top-30 player at the end of last season. He is sitting at 15.3 points, 10.0 assists, 6.2 rebounds, 2 steals and 1.8 3-pointers so far this year, and that is with sitting out the end of several games due to blow outs.
I will say as good as kyle is...hes not Chris Paul...so I think I agree with you. I watched them really closely last night. My friend put it best...the rockets dont have anyone that makes it look easy. Cp3 and blake both make it look easy. Lowry would drive in make a great move and just miss the layup...then cp3 did the same thing and got it to fall plus the foul.... I think that aspect is what is always going to separate lowry from the elite. He has to work a lot harder to get the numbers that he is putting up then CP3 or Rose does.
He's a completely different kind of guy from CP3, Steve Nash, any point guard along those lines. Lowry is not a skills player, he's an energy/athleticism player. His skills are solid, don't get me wrong, but they'll never be elite. He turns himself into an above average starting point guard by means of his hustle.
Lowry gets a lot of his by flat outworking the other guy Chris Paul is just on another level basketball wise. CP3 is the best in the biz right now, and I don't like the guy, but have mad respect for his game. Loved watching the Clippers last year with Griffin, now this year, oh man they are going to be really good.....CP3 and Blake is sick nasty as a combo. DD
I can't stand Griffin, looking at his face just makes me want to punch him (which would probably get me killed haha). The Clippers do have a very good team though. They also have a nice anchor in the paint with DeAndre at center.
