Cam Newton is decent, but to say on path to greatest player ever is such a laughable statement.

First of all, the rookie passing record. Cam Newton is a solid quarterback, but I can name of 4 past rookies that could have broken Peyton Mannings rookie record if they had the chance Cam Newton had this year and start games.

Second of all, the offense they run in Carolina is a gimmick offense. Much like when the wildcat offense came back into football and teams didn't really know how to handle it. Carolina's offense WILL be scouted heavily by the time next season rolls around and Cam WILL regress into just an above average player. If I had to compare another player to cam from any sport, I would have to say Cam Newton is the Andre Iguodala of football. He is on the verge of something, lord only knows what, but I don't ever seeing him taking his game to the next level. The skills coaches in Carolina are not very solid, despite Cam putting up huge numbers. The skills coaches are responsible for getting a player ready for the next level of his career and Carolina simply does not have quality coaches in that regard.

I can sit here and go on and on about Cam and Carolina, but to make a long story short. I wouldn't expect much from Cam Newton in the coming years if they don't get the type of quality coaches his game will require in his career.

Maybe I'll eat crow, but I have a gut feeling that Cam was playing above his own capabilities this year. Can he do that year in, year out? I personally wouldn't count on it.

Have you seen him play much? It's hard for a rookie QB to play above his abilities an entire season. It also doesn't take an entire season for defenses to figure out how to defend new players with exploitable flaws.

On the contrary, Newton tightened up his accuracy and decision making the last half of the year AFTER defenses got to know what does well. Next year, if defenses decide to shadow him and reduce his ability make plays with his legs, it will be on him to rack up passing yards.

I completely agree with your opening statement.

Cam Newton is one special player and I hope he has a long career in the NFL. However, we are talking about the Not Forever League so anything can happen.

Can I be in your league?

    Brees - 28/35, 385 yards, 5 TD's, 140.7 QB Rating

    Cam - 15/25, 158 yards, 1 TD, 75.1 QB Rating

You got a draft steal this year. Don't fall in love.

Just saw a pretty interesting stat:

In 2010, the Panther scored 16 touchdowns.

In 2011, the Panthers scored 48 touchdowns.

    Pretty impressive.

I dont know if Cam can repeat this great year, maybe he goes the same way like Michael Vick, had an amazing year, and then the next year not so much.

Casey is it me or am i seeing more and more black qb's at the college level. I mean most of the bowl games had black qb's in it. I havent watched college football in a very long time, and it was nice to see( i have to admit)

I read an article on sbnation.com thatpolled 68% of college qb's were black at the d1 level, 82% at the d2 level, and 56% at the d3 level. The number is skyrocketing.

Maybe the success Cam Newton, Tim Tebow, Colt McCoy, and VY had in college is making college consider dual-threats more now( which is great)

Hi. Why did you accuse me of being a RGIII hater?

As to your question about black QB's:

I don't really care. I don't watch debates on race relations, I usually watch sports.

Good to see. However, there are less than 5 black coaches in d1 football. I wonder why?

Actually that Cain thread wasn't a prediction but a question right before he blew up. It was quite prophetic but I never said I liked him and had I known he was a poon hound I would have never cared.

on this thread, it was quite an easy call. dude was on pace to break peyton's record by about a thousand yards when I started this thread. it was after eight games, I felt pretty safe. hopefully he continues to progress

Even though the OP may have just been joking, its not out of this world to say that Cam Newton has a chance to go down as "maybe" the GOAT of football, especially when you count his college and his rookie season thus far. That being said he is still FAR from that discussion

Cam Newton was the first player to ever win a National Title, a Heisman, and go #1 in the NFL Draft in that same year since Leon Hart in 1950. Couple that with the records he has broken his rookie year, its not out of the question, but its still too early.

    Dear P. "DaDakota" Gabriel,

Interesting you have not been bumping this "for your ego" these days. Please stop making threads about anyone you think deserves respect.

    Thanks,
    Cam

i have to give you credit, you waited for cam to have about his best game of the season for you to bust your nut with me in mind. what a petty little man you are.

i started this thread, and i bumped it a few times because people took so much offense to the topic. i **** women, i don't need this site for my ego son

i guess with obama winning you need something to feel good about, congrats, cam is having a sophomore slump. now you can continue with your sophomoric posts. if you notice and i know you do, i generally post about once a week nowadays and its usually in the d&d
