Not that this has anything specific to do with Rivers, but it frustrates me how lazy officiating gets on travelling calls and pivot foot "changes." Watch that play at the 0:51 mark in the video directly above this post. How many steps does Rivers get before he starts dribbling?
I don't really watch college hoops, but wasn't this kid ranked number 1 before the season started? Now he's done to number 20 at the draftexpress...wtf happened?
Other prospects got better. This is will be one of the deepest drafts in NBA history. If I was his agent I would recommend staying at Duke another season to get drafted higher. Thats if he cares about making money in his first couple NBA seasons.
Couldn't agree more. Unfortunately the refs at the next level probably wont be much better, and I'd say there's a good chance he makes mistakes like that for the rest of his career.
He is going to need more time to develop than the prospects ahead of him. Look how underdeveloped his body is compared to the likes of Terrence Jones, Harrison Barnes, other supposed wing players that are going to get taken ahead of him in the draft. His #1 Rivals ranking still speaks to his potential, though. He has worked on his game in all three facets of offense, short- mid- and long-range. If he can bulk up which we have every reason to believe he will given his pedigree and dedication to improving himself, you gotta believe he will have a pretty good NBA career. This isn't a case where Rivals ranked Selby ahead of Irving that one year because Selby was more athletic (although we did see some of Selby's potential this past game against Memphis). I would love to have Rivers on this team as a developing successor to Kevin Martin.
I think he could be better than irving. Irving's draft was not great. that said, Austin rivers has not lived upto the no 1 prospect hype in hs coming out. He is special, has good handles, but really has ways to go in decision making, his body, his timing, etc. but he has great fundamentals, but being about 6'4 and skinny hes gotta find his niche as a pg or sg, hell be a scorer probably, but he might be a bit small for the NBA in that role. But next years draft will be special either way with difference makers
I think Irving will be a Tyreke Evans clone. Very frustrating to watch.. Most of these prospects should stay in college and work on there game. Look how much Barnes has improved!
Irving is nothing like Evans.... Irving is a good playmaker, has a slight frame and plays using his quickness, and has a nice jumper. Evans is a SG playing PG who can't shoot very well but uses his length to score. Dude is also pretty much the layup king.
There's no way he falls to 20. He's too skilled. He's got a great handle, body control, can split the double, can obviously shoot it from distance, and he can finish by using his body position instead of relying on quicks or hops. He's one and done and he's a top 10 pick, no question about it. The only question about Rivers is can he play the point on the NBA level. It's the same question that dogged Stephen Curry. To me, it was easy to tell that Curry would be able to transition to the point and do well. I can't tell so much with Rivers. He's taller and lankier. Don't know if he can defend points. Can't tell how good his court vision is right now. Worst case scenario, he's a primary scoring option at the NBA level. And I think he will have a better NBA career than John Wall.
