It's not on Morey, it's on Les, and you can't fire an owner. It's Les who has ordered his GM to rebuild without tanking, just like Drayton tried to do with the Astros. The result will be the same, many years of mediocrity until fans revolt and stop attending games. That seems to be the one thing that can get an owners attention.
How can it be a knee jerk after 5 years? I thought people get plenty of time to be evaluated by then?
Morey is doing a great job. It's not his fault that we are where we are. He has to work within the system. The NBA is a closed shop that doesn't work like the rest of the world. The NBA system rewards sucking. It's flawed. It's not a free market. If the NBA was like any respectable soccer league in Europe, there would be relegation and new teams could come up. Instead of getting rewarded for being terrible, you would get punished, as it should be.
Morey is also taking risks on high ceiling high risk guys. TWill, hasheem, morris etc. Not his fault, it is really our only shot.
he should have resigned when that trade fails. that would have been a big impact to the face of the NBA. but to fire him? it's a shame.
it took the lakers several years and a cheap orlando owner to recover from magic's shock retirement, this is the team that is about the most lucrative destination and played in 16 finals in the last 32 years. These things never happen overnight.
This is silly. However, Morey's job is on the line with the McHale hire, this is his hand picked staff, and if they are worse this year than last...well..... DD
Yep and give the lakers chris paul in the process. Nothing said Nene was going to sign with Houston either. I love how Morey always almost pulls off these super trades. How did the Amare almost trade work out?
Depends on how much worse the team is and the circumstances. It's kind of funny because if the pro-tanking fans got what they wanted and the Rocket's only won 14 games, for example, they would still want Morey fired because the Rockets sucked. But if the Rockets do as well as they possibly can, they will want him fired because they are mediocre. I have never heard anyone post a sound arguement on why a different GM would have the team in a better position now than we currently are in. Fans who want Morey gone tend to fixate on him not having aquired a super star for the Rockets in the short time since we lost both Yao and Tmac with minimal compensation due to injuries, but don't seem to have any idea of why a different GM would be more successful there. It's not like if we had a different GM that Bosh, Lebron and Wade would have come to Houston instead of Miami, or if we had the Knick's GM that Carmello would have came here instead of NY. Some things are just outside of the control of ANY GM. Fans will get frustrated by this, but to me you don't fire the GM unless you think there is clearly someone else who would be doing a better job. The problem with firing Morey is that a different GM isn't going to magically get us Dwight Howard or the number one over all pick next year. It's much more likely that a new GM would be worse than Morey rather than better.
