Everyone stop saying he's the next vince. Does anyone remember how GOOD vince carter was??? Lord DeRozan wishes he was what VC was in Toronto
Well, if were on the topic of the Raptors.. I like Ed Davis... watched alot of his games and he looks like he could be a solid player
I think this guy may be our best shot to land a more complete above average talent, than we currently have, outside of Lowry. What stands out to me is that his "weaknesses" are mainly things that either come with experience, or can be taught. He's got the natural tools/talent to be a good scorer AND defender. Best of all, he's still only 22 years old. You've got time to develop him for another year or two and still can enjoy several years of his prime after that. I think at worst he'll be at the Gay-Granger level of talent. Not our superstar, but we need to start trading in some of this mediocre talent we have in abundance, and narrow it down to a short rotation of above average talent. It's difficult to get one superstar as it is, getting 2 or 3 may be damn near impossible for us. We need to hope to get just one and surround them with lowry, derozan, and one more player around their level of talent.
Does he give you anything Martin doesn't? It's not rhetorical... I'm just asking. He's obviously younger, and cheaper, so that's a plus. Also, why would Toronto trade him? I wish I had more time to watch these players.
LOL he's part of the Raptors' core, a team that's building for the future. Would you trade your future for those three assets? Derozan has dramatically stepped up his three-point shooting this season. He made 5 against Cleveland last night, compared to 5 he made all of last season. If he can develop better court vision and gain some bulk to post up smaller defenders the sky's the limit.
He's not like Martin, which is good and bad. Not as good of a shooter, but much more explosive. He can rise and shoot with a defender on him, rather than having to set himself. He's a better defender (i know, who isn't) and should continue to improve on that end. Like i said before, just a more complete above average player than we have, other than Lowry. Toronto would want to keep him for the same reason we'd want him, but you never know. If we can give them 2 pieces for their one, maybe they'll go for it. Maybe PP and either Morris and TWill. A pick. Just depends on who they want from us. PP, Dragic, twill, and a pick? Morris instead of PP? Probably more. I think we have to overbid. We can't keep waiting to rape teams anymore.
I'd give up Martin for him but they aren't trading him away like that. They probably wouldn't take Patterson and Morris for him too but I would do that trade in a second if it were available. He's easily their best player and even though he doesn't have a 3pt shot yet, his mid-range game is good.
Have you ever seen Derozan play? His defense is atrocious, he's very athletic but he seems lost or unwilling to play D. Also he simply has problems staying with his man or understanding the concept of team defense. Better or worse than Martin? Its hard to say either way, they both are horrible. Also I've never seen anyone go from terrible to good on D, you either have it or you don't, same applies for rebounding and passing. He's horrible at all these things. Derozan has always been one dimensional, he hasn't shown anything so far this year where he's going to change, and that's with a coach who's stressing defense. I've already made all these points on page one of this thread.....I guess that was from last year, seems like Derozan hasn't changed at all, his stats say the same thing.
No way. DeRozan plays HORRIBLE defense, in some ways worse than Martin because DeRozan does not even try.
Martin doesn't play good defense partly cause he's not particularly athletic and weak. DeRozan has the physical tools to be a great defender I'd put more money on Demar learning how to play good defense than Martin...
i thought i had seen some decent defense on his part in some games, but i guess i haven't watched him enough....however, should that that really chase a team away? At 22, not much college experience, i'd assume he just needs to learn defensive fundamentals and get some good leadership next to him. I'm not sure he's ever had an actual mentor in this league. That's one reason why the Raptors are spinning in circles.
