The logic of this thread basically states: score at or over 25ppg = Durant....love this board.

no, there is a lot more to it. but scoring average seems to be the be all, end all in basketball circles about a player's star potential. Well, that, and athletic ability. If you are athletic freak, score 25 points or more a game and "give the impression you are taking over in the 4th quarter ala Derrick Rose" - (the kevin love coefficient) you are a star.

What you crazy foo. Do you really believe the crap appearing on your screen coming from your fingers? If you took a poll on the 60 owners and GM's I'm sure a majority would trade Durant for mr gay every time.

No don't leave. Whoever said that was rude. You just have some really dark grizzlies shades on.

    Riiiiiigggggggghhhhhhhhhtttttttt.

I am curious, what. Durant is generally viewed as a top 5 player at worst. No one really views Gay as a top 20 player.
So, is Gay underrated, Durant overrated, or both? And where would you rank both of them?

Rudy has beaten Durant more times than I can remember, game winners and such.

The reason why durant is top five and rudy is top 20 is partly due to a philosophical different between how they use durant and how the grizzlies use Gay.

Gay got max dollars so deferring to Randolph cost him nothing. He was glad to do it for Hollins. The grizzlies try to play team basketball. The thunder and the bulls use their stars for hero basketball. That is largely why both got bounced in the ecf and wcf.

It's d.rose hobbling on one leg and throwing up bricks and westbrook and durant doing the same. The bulls are more blatant than the thunder are about their hero players. But both teams were beaten by teams that actually had a team concept in the mavs and the heat.

Gay and the grizzlies aren't a team that makes that delineation of players and that's why, battier won a game, mike made big shots, gasol and grevis also.

what, I'm glad you put this out there so blatantly. Your OKC and Durant envy is on full display again. I like Rudy Gay a lot and want him to succeed. Guys like him who get huge contracts and don't slack off are a credit to the NBA. But hitting game-winning shots like Robert Horry doesn't make a franchise player. Gay doesn't have KD's ability to carry a team game-after-game-after-game for an entire season.

If you are right, it's all good. It would be awesome if Gay late-bloomed into a superstar, but it ain't gonna happen.

Would it be safe to say then that Westbrook was beaten by Mike Connelly more times than you can remember?

Why would you want him to leave?

When people are wrong in their predictions, I prefer that they stay so I can make fun of them.

Of course that's why Juwon Howard, AI and Starbury are franchise all stars.

    **I call this hero ball.

But then again we about to see.

Hero ball is popular with the kids, but unless you have a team around you you aren't going to win much.

I still don't understand the appeal of give ______ (insert star player) the ball and get out the way. Iso, after iso after iso.

If that's carrying the team, I can do without it.

Funny thing is I've never seen durant or rose secure a big rebound or lock his man down on defense. Call me when durant wants to guard dirk and shuts him down. All these 30 point games don't mean that much to me.

That is also why okc brought in collison, ibaka, perkins and the guys that actually do the dirty work.

KD is a great scorer, no doubt. But I am not into the hero/goat style of basketball.

Gay is a chucker, overrated on these boards, has always been overrated on these boards. He will never advance above the level of being an solid/decent starter at the 3.
