    [KRGV News] www.krgv.com (video)

A 15-year-old in 8th grade Student has died after a shooting at Cummings Middle School in Brownsville. Police said he brought a rifle to the school and refused to put it down.

According to the news station's video, student "shot three times" (I am unsure if this means he got shot or he shot AT the officers), officers opened fire.

    From Brownsville Herald: http://www.brownsvilleherald.com/articles/shot-135437-police-shooting.html

KIDS, don't bring guns to school... or anywhere else. :( I know this will probably go to the D&D for the gun control issues, but... dang... that's sad stuff.

15 and still in 8th grade? I suppose that's one clue.

I believe he was saying that the kid was not very smart.

Shame he had to die ...But it may have saved other kids from a national tragedy..... Im sure it was a hard, tough decision for the officers to make...

I'm sure the responding officers will be haunted with what this kid did for the rest of their lives, to be totally honest.

That being said, if this event prevents one kid from bringing a gun into a school, or anyone, for that matter, for bringing a gun anywhere, and opening fire, it is a plus in my book.

(Call me distasteful if you want, I don't care)

    ^ Yes. Parents.

Anyway, there's more news reports... but nothing about who shot whom how many times... :(

My kids know to go nowhere near my arsenal. Besides them being girls (and not into guns at all), they know how much I talk about the rights and responsibility that goes with it ad nauseum.

Parents fault. and for the police, it is a no-brainer - the police should not be blamed.

    That's a tragedy.

How is 15 that bad for an 8th grader? That would put him on track for HS graduation at 19 which is not uncommon.

I think focusing on the age is wrong, maybe he had a IEP and had to be held back a year for education development.

Usually is a relative term. I started HS at 13 because I have an August birthday and my parents put me into the school system earlier than they should have. Doesn't make me any smarter.

The flip side is true too. Someone can be put into the school system late (for birthday reasons/homeschooling/etc...); doesn't make 'em stupid. Probably just as many people graduate at 19 as they do 17; again it doesn't automatically make them stupid.

Two years behind, then you're probably talking about some developmental or discipline problem .

Some parents hold their kids back for sports too....but 15 is really old for 8th grade, that is 2 years behind.

It would make sense if he had an early birthday, my birthday's in october, so you could look at my age and mistake me for the wrong grade, if his birthday is in the fall, then he's only one behind.

15 and 14, IMO, is a big difference though.

No it's not. Most people turn 14 during their 8th grade year.

Correct. And some of us don't even go to FIRST grade and go straight to 2nd grade, or are "late" birthdays like in late May.
