The center Morey should have gone after instead

Spencer Hawes is blowing up. Averageing 12 points 12 rebounds and leads the nba in fg per. and getting 4 assists to boot and almost 2 blocks a game. He didn't put up good numbers last year but it didn't show how well he played at the end of last season when the coach finally started to give him some run. The Rockets were better off not signing Sam and let Hill develop but now to knowthat we could of gotten a frachise center who is still only 23 years old is a tough pill to take. He only signed a one year contract so he'll be a unrestricted free agent next season but instead of using all our cap room and paying say for example 4 years 40 million, on the open market he'll prob. get the same as Chandler did for 65 mill. Another mess up by Morey, but these days what else is new?

"Another" mess up? Hawes has been great so far but lets see if he keeps it up for a whole year. Even if he does, you're blaming Morey for not signing a guy who is surprising people this year? The other GM's weren't expecting this either or else they would have scooped him up quickly.

    LOL, repped.

I believe this is the most common seed of evil in this board, lousy expectations.

He is 7 feet tall and is averaging 12 boards a game while providing scoring. I would give up a decent amount for a player of his skill-set.

The 76ers got him for Dalembert. Go figure.

This is the definition of a knee-jerk thread. Spencer Hawes is "blowing up" after only 4 games, which according to the OP, makes him a "franchise center". Yeah right. We've heard it all now. Throw Morey out the door.

I like how Hawes exploded against the Heat's dominant C in the playoffs. He was burying jumpers and grabbing every rebound in sight. Oh wait...

If you really believe he will get 4yrs/$65MM next season, stop whatever medication you're taking immediately.

The guy that will fit great with the Rockets is Asik from the Bulls. He is tall and big!!
I saw him playing against Atlanta and that is what our team needs.

hindsight is 20/20, lets see what he is doing the whole season. I'm sure glad people on clutch fans are not our GM, the rox would go bankrupt and we would have 20 centers on out team

Philly did not trade Dalembert to upgrade their Center position. They did it purely for financial reasons. Hawes production is very similar to Dalemberts, but Dalembert is a much better shot blocker.

However, in the past Dalembert's contract was the most negative thing about him as a player and caused Philly to look to trade him a few years in a row. Going forward Hawes will command a larger contract going forward that will trump Dalembert's.

If Dalembert was in shape he would consistently be on par with the numbers Hawes would bring but with greater shot blocking ability. Hawes has just had a nice 4 game stretch, but surely his numbers will come back down to earth.

If Morey would have traded for Hawes he would have been giving up a player like a Courtney Lee, Budinger, or draft picks(if not more) for essentially an equal value center in free agency without giving up picks or young talent in Dalembert. Dalembert at the rate the Rockets got him at was the right move even though Hawes is having a nice year so far he isnt a superstar franchise center.
