Yeah, no one ever said that. I compared him to Paul Pierce, Caron Butler, and specifically a less talented Carmelo. I compared his talent level to a Brandon Roy. I may be wrong on that as is, no need to make **** up on top of it.

Of course he is highly skilled, but his handles and his footwork, especially on defense, need work.

There are definitely outside factors working against Morris's favor. But to give credit to some of the detractors, rarely will you see a star level player come in and look as lost/unsure as Morris did in those 7 minutes. Again, I agree that it is way too early to write him off and there is still plenty of chances for him to reach his potential, but I am not going to sit here and pretend like I didn't expect him to contribute right off the bat. At least that part I was definitely wrong.

just as ridiculous as calling him wrong 5 games into an abbreviated, practice-limited season.

I like morris, but like I've said before, he's a tweener. Being a tweener isn't a bad thing, its just a thing. Cx and others were trying to compare morris to pierce which never was. To me and the many games I watched, I never saw PP game. Some said glen robinson. Those guys must didn't see robinson take down the fab 5 in college on his way to 30 ppg and 12 rebs and the #1 player in the draft. Robinson could get where he wanted to on the court and smoke jmpers in players face. Like karl said, robinson could roll out of bed and get 20. That's not morris either.

Morris is kinda like mark aguirre and dantley in the 80s. The problem is, we're not in the 80s anymore. He's not the athlete jamison or marion were, he doesn't have the size of horry or a young rashard lewis. Morris would fit with another guy similar to him as just a forward. Morris and beasley as forwards. Morris and randolph as forwards. Morris and josh smith would work. Morris and a position defined forward will not work. That would mean that whatever that other guy is, morris is now in the opposite role and that would kill whatever someone thought he was or could be. He could play some 3 and some 4, but neither full time.

Roy was All-NBA 2nd team his 3rd year in the league and 3rd team two years ago when he missed a quarter of the season. Roy had superstar level talent and weekend warrior level joints. I guess I am just confused with the player comparisons you are using.

Outside of that I hope you are right with your Roy-level talent assessment for Marcus Morris, because we need to get lucky and get someone that talented.

So much for the future face of the franchise. :(

Unless Morris undergoes an overwhelming transformation in D-league, he is not going to amount to much more than a bench-warmer.

What are you talking about? Morris is getting the one thing he needs: PT as a forward. Being comfortable makes all the difference in the world, Morris looked like crap his first preseason, then started hitting shots his 2nd. It'll be the same thing here.

I know it's SSS but color me unimpressed so far.

Anyway, I hope you are right about PT. It would be great that one of Rox high draft picks actually turns into gold.

Better the D-League than learning nothing and getting fat from the bench. Still, I'm worried that the D-League and its reputation will weigh him down...

And Bernard King would run today's 3s off the court.

Props for the mature reply, CXbby. I don't think Marcus Morris going to the D-League is an insult to his skills nor is it surprising at all ... given how the Rockets operate, it was very likely from the get-go. I think Morey hinted early on, even before the lockout, that this was what they envisioned.

I just hope he goes to work down there and has a positive attitude. I'm sure it's hard given his twin brother Markieff is not there, but the D-League isn't an insult. It gives him playing/development time and sells a few RGV tickets (I wouldn't mind going down there to see him play).

I agree. The most important thing for Marcus Morris is to get coaching and minutes, both of whcih will be more plentiful in the D-league compared to our team in a lock-out shortened season. Although it would have been nice for him to come out like gangbusters, this is much more expected. I'm not worried (yet). I'm actually looking forward to seeing what he can do with some minutes and experience. We can always bring him back up later in the year.

I wonder how much being separated from Markieff has affected Marcus's game. This is the first time they have played apart, which was widely publicised after the draft and discussed here. Markieff seems to have adapted well, playing in every Suns game (32 minutes the last game) and putting up good numbers for a rookie picked at his spot (in my opinion), yet Marcus has struggled to get time on the court. If there's some separation anxiety going on, it's not hurting Markieff, and it's doubtful that it's having a major impact on Marcus. Pretty clear that his problem is adapting to the change of position, not being apart from his twin. Leeb made a statement that surprised me, saying that he's a tweener (not what surprised me), whose physical makeup and game would have adapted better to the NBA of the 1980's. He compared Marcus to Aguirre and Dantley (big surprise!). Heck, we should be so lucky! I would kill to have Adrian Dantley on the Rocks. I don't care what decade it is. The cat was a load.

The good thing about this is that people in Dallas can probably see him get meaningful minutes before people in Houston do.... for those in Dallas, he'll be playing against the Texas Legends on the 28th/29th. Assuming he's still in the D-Leagues at that time, of course.

Don't mistake what I typed. I don't think dantley nor agguire would be as good now as they were in the 80s and that's not dismissing what they did career wise. Look at the guys opposite in terms of players. Aguirre and dantley were forwards in the sense. They were neither small forwards nor power forwards. Back then, they didn't really label positions as they do now. Personally, I think morris would be ok just being a forward without a position.
