Sci-Fi epic, "Six stories set in a different time and place become intricately related to each other." Based on the book. Tentative Release October 2012 Starring Tom Hanks, Hugo Weaving, Hugh Grant, Halle Berry, Susan Sarandon, and more
I know nothing of the book, but judging from the cast from imdb, this might be one of those really slow and long dramas.
The Wachowskis are involved. I don't trust anything they're involved with after they screwed up the Matrix trilogy.
I gotta say- I'm holding my breath. I love The Matrix and didn't think that the sequels were horrible. Speed Racer was a visual vomit extravaganza, so I can't say that they nailed it. But they're in their element with high sci-fi and have a co-director so maybe it will be good. I read somewhere last night that the movie would be 3 hours long.
I thought there must have been a mistake. That novel was a confused mess, although some of that was due to the writing style. When half of your six stories are painful to read due to regional dialects or the font the author used, it makes for some tortured reading. Adapting that to film should get rid of those issues. They certainly seem to have gotten a good cast. I don't see many movies at the theatre, but I'd catch this one on video.
I loved this book, and hope they do it justice in the translation to the screen. It's not exactly sci-fi, however, as the timeline begins in the colonial era and also includes a Victorian era story. I'll be really interested to see if all the parts are given equal time, and if they keep the unique structure of the stories.
Yeah, it seems to me some of the Frobisher (sp) stuff will be extremely UNcinematic. Yeah, sit around in dingy rooms talking about music and stuff. Don't get me wrong, I loved the novel, but I don't see it as movie worthy. Some of the best movies are based off of short stories. So maybe one of the six narratives would be an idea to play with in film, but not all six at once.
I stand by my statement. V for V was okay, but it is a far cry from what they showed earlier with Bound and the original Matrix.

I smell a desperation because a 5 mins trailer that try to give away everything means they don't know how to sell this movie. At least now I know it's NOT a sci-fi movie so my interest just went from highly anticipated straight to video. After Bound and the first Matrix. They pretty much lost it.

No fan of the Wachs, but if you read the book, you knew it couldn't be truly sci-fi. I can't imagine this working on the big screen, but who knows.
How confident are you in the Wachowskis? They will have to make a good movie first before they win me back. They have made two good movies, and those happen to be the first two they made. After that, pure wastes of potential. Matrix 2 & 3 were not HORRIBLE, but they clearly had no idea why people loved Matrix so much. V for Vendetta was apprently written by a 4th grade class somewhere Speed Racer was hilariously, laughably bad And Ninja Assassin was just plain stupid. So, I am not holding out much hope that those guys have suddenly remembered how to make a good movie.
