Would you side with cold, hard, facts... or side with now-false religion?
For obvious reasons I won't make this public.

Please, I'm not trying to flame. This is just a simple question.

I think a religious person would need very strong faith to even consider answering this question.

    Meh.

I'm just astounded at the number of religious people who deny the evidence we have in front of us now.

Case in point: the number of people who think creationism is correct and evolution is wrong...

    They can't dodge forever...

I thought Richard Dawkins already popularized the impossibility of it?

I don't think that any scientific evidence proves or disproves religion at this point. Some elements of some religions are proven wrong, yes, but science does not (yet) explain the origin of life, the concept of infinity, whether there is a God or not, etc. I don't think science can do that. Our brain is not designed to fully comprehend these issues. So what is left? You either believe in something or you don't.

It would be easier to prove the existence of God than to disprove. All he has to do is show his face through the clouds and say something profound like, "I put women on this planet to stay in the kitchen. Carry on."

Now, if aliens showed their face first, and said, "this whole God thing y'all got going on is cute, but it was us all this time. Sometimes we get bored watching you and wanted to spice things up. Sorry."

    But who created the aliens?

My two cents, if you're not trying to flame, then you should remove personal observations in your subsequent replies....

Anyways, look no further to some of the churches that started out as doomsday sects for your answer.

Some of these congregants are fully aware of their history.

    Who created God?

But really, if a person is willing to believe something with as much factual support as leprechauns or Santa Claus or the tooth fairy, then I'm sure hard core facts that disprove God/gods would not really matter.

I mean, we are a group of people who make Fox News one of the leading news source. Facts aren't exactly the most important thing in people's minds.

Well, yeah, good question, that's why I think the human brain cannot comprehend and must resort to believing (or not). The concepts of God and infinity are connected, of course.

Well, I just never liked it when people say "who created the world" as a way to justify God's existence. Because the same logic can be applied infinitely upward beyond God himself. But I agree with you that God is a concept that humans can't really comprehend. So whether we do have facts against such existence doesn't matter. Because the concept itself is almost by definition beyond "facts".

Could have also taken the extra three seconds to add the "true religion" hypothetical and mitigate the risk of a passive aggressive second thread.

Most already have been proven to be about as real as alien abductions or crop circles, to the extent "scientific" proof exists - so I think you have your answer as to the reaction.

I would hypothetically start a new non-god based religion and clean up. Off the top of my head, I think I would go with a story about DNA being the link between mortal men and immortality. Physical and mental health would be prime tenets; the nurture and mental development of the children would be the focus of the society, probably limiting the social norm to two children for the purposes of directed efforts. Something about 'purity' focusing on clean, low stress living, environmental protection, sustainability and the preservation of the planet.

    And polygamy.

noted that you dodged the question

just a bit of helpful advice -- you should only post statements that you can back up with logic and facts.
