How did you feel about Steve Francis refusing to play in Vancouver and forcing a trade? What did that say for future NBA players?
Twill/lee/hill/picks. They don't have much leverage if cousins truly wants out. As I said earlier, he CAN force a trade (can refuse to go in, walk down the court, lay down, not show up to practice).
My premise starts by thinking that for Sac, Cousins potential = Scola veteran unselfish leadership that they clearly lacs. If Salmons is involved, that would add negative value to the Sac part of the deal, because he at this point in his career is overpayed a lot, his contract runs for at least for 3 more years (including this year) at 8M per. As for Cousins, in my mind the 20 10 for him is a given, how efficient, and how these numbers appear can be a concern, but I think he has both the skillset and the heart to win/improve. The only question I have is, how will he react to the adversity on a day-to-day basis. If he really demanded a trade that is a bad sign, but if I am a GM I gamble no doubt. Swallowing a contract like Salmons or Outlaw in the process is not a deal breaker for me, but I think we have enough players/assets to avoid those by sweetening the deal, without dismantling our roster, IMO.
^^ right but from the Kings front office standpoint, they take that argument an spin it - in their heads, when negotiating with trading partners, etc. Here's a potential 20-10 guy, and sure, you're giving up a nice, crafty, wily, veteran, but for any team to give up a potential franchise center, taking on a bad contract is just part of the deal. Now, if the Rockets were to say, here's KMart and Scola, we don't want Salmons (though at that point, probably would have to take him for salary purposes, no?), that's a deal sweetener. Adding Budinger or Hill is almost a given, if I'm negotiating as the Kings GM. You kind of say here's fair value for DeMarcus, and oh btw, we're only trading him by jettisoning this contract at the same time anyway, fair value or not. anyways, i agree with your thoughts!
If I am Sacramento, I am using him in a package to consolidate some talent and gain more star power. I wouldn't give up Scola or Lowry for him. Most likely would have to involve a third team. Id love a Hill + fillers for Cousins swap. Pipe dream though
Salmons is still quite good and can be an asset to a contender. Say for example, we get salmons along with cousins. Why couldn't we trade him to the contenders in need for a sf (see dallas butler injury or lakers sf problem)for an expiring and a pick?
Isn't Sac below the salary minimum right now? This might give us a chance to shed some salary AND pick up a potiential young stud C.
if I'm sac-town, I want a proven scorer and another leader for that young team. I would also want to get another pg to tryout for the position because Evans and jimmer aren't true pg. I would offer salmons because his contract is longer. I'd offer scola Flynn bud ny pick and a future 1st with top-10 Protection for cousins and salmons
Considering I live in sacramento and watch many of cousin's games I want nothing to do with him. He has no true low post game and is a complete and utter idiot. I am telling you he is the biggest head case i have seen in some time.
A few thoughts: 1. Pretty sure Morey would be fairly conservative about what to offer SAC (i.e. nothing close to what he offered to get Gasol). The KMart, Scola, Dragic + others for Gasol deal was meant to bring in two proven excellent players (Gasol + Nene via cap room created by the trade), so you can go "all in" with the assets. Cousins is much less proven, more of a "current under-performer or headcase with potential but in the wrong situation" situation-- the offer is more similar to what the team offered for Kevin Martin, Squid or Ron Artest. 2. We also need to remember that Leslie Alexander has made clear that he didn't want to bottom out. So, I doubt they strip away the core of the team to roll their dice with Cousins. 3. I think that Cousins has a chance of benefiting from a trade to Houston, not because McHale has magical big man powers or magical headcase healing powers (how's that working out for Terrence Williams?), but because he'd be back on a team that competes and has a legitimate shot a winning every night. For all the screaming people do about "developing" young players by handing them minutes, the kind of "just throw all of your young lotto picks out there" approach to player development can be rather detrimental . As the saying goes, practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect. Hours and hours of game experience doing the wrong thing is probably not so great a developing winning skills. A coach has to teach doing the right thing, even if his team currently lack the talent or maturity to win and is playing for the future.
They just assigned Whiteside and Honeycutt to the D league. and They pulled Cousins from their pre game video thingie. /plot thickening
That's pretty harsh that they completely pulled him from the pre-game promo video...maybe a trade really is imminent?
I wonder how many T-mac haters are jumping on this Cousins bandwagon....no one worried about history repeating itself eh? Trade for the guy. Trade anyone you can for him. Not sure there is anyone on our team Sac-Town would want, but heck try. Just don't give up draft picks. Just don't complain that he is a head-case when he starts making odd comments to the media, or whatever. I think he has tremendous potential, and the best part is, if he doesn't work out, it will not cost us a lot and we will really suck since we will lose some of our better players for him. Can you say better draft position?
mr_jasonjones Jason Jones I kind of assume Cousins has to make the trip...w/ no Whiteside or Honeycutt the Kings have only 12 players.
