I have to admit, i was one of the "start T-Will crowd". After sitting back and watching Bud once again come out of a shooting slump, I realized something. We have all done this to Bud every season that he has been in the league. Chase just takes a little while to build up at the beginning of the season. Once he is warmed up, he gets going. He has even added a little defense to his game now. I would like to thank DD for pointing out what was painfully obvious. T-Will, with all his talents, is still, for whatever reason, not ready to start over Chase. T-Will was selling us his skills all throughout offseason and training camp. Problem is, his skills don't sell themselves on the court. CBL
I'm not sure how you can declare any player is out of a shooting slump after one good shooting game. Bud, specifically, has had a HUGE stretch in the past where he was in a shooting slump, so it's not just a matter of starting late. Also, don't most NBA players get going at some point? If they don't, then they'll be out of the league, more than likely. Bud's issue has always been consistency. The fact that he keeps coming back from bad games isn't really a good thing. He needs to put together more consistent stretches.
Bud's too inconsistent and has been he's whole career. The good stretches are nice, but the bad stretches are tough to watch. Fact is the Rox don't have starting quality at the 3, including Williams. Here's hoping Morris or Parsons can develop into starters.
He was having a decent game like after having 3 awful to mediocre ones. Bad rate still. Would love to have a defensive version of Bud with a better motor, more active in the Tayshaun Prince mold. Talking about building the old Pistons team.
The only thing Bud has proven is he has regressed in defense. And he isnt the same Bud who started the last 15 games for us.
At this moment, I am not in love with any of our SFs. Terrence Williams has poor body language most of the time, and should really be playing the SG anyway. Chase Budinger is a soft, shooting SF that really doesn't shoot all that well, nor does he get to the free throw line. He is absolutely worthy of being the starter, though. Chandler Parsons & Marcus Morris are unproven and young. (Morris NEEDS to be a player, or else the rebuilding through the draft plan is failing. It would be a huge blow If he is not what we perceive him to potentially be at SF.) I just wish that Daryl would find an impactful way to condense the roster.
The problem with Bud is that he's pretty much useless when his shot isn't falling. Yes, he has improved his d somewhat (like what DD says), but he still plays soft and doesn't attack the rim aggressively. This is ok when his shot is fine, but when it isn't his play costs us games. Bud seems to be a streaky shooter, in this case he should really look at Kmart's game and take some cues from it. I'm a die-hard Kmart fan, and one thing I notice about him is he's more Eddie Jones than Ray Allen, his shot is way too erratic to be depended on. However, when Kmart's shots aren't falling he switches gears and goes into attack mode, driving and flopping his way to the free throw line. There were lots of times Kmart will have a 2-8 shooting night, but still end up with 16 points because he kept going to the line. C-bud should do the same if he wants to lock up the SF starter position. As far as MM goes though, were you at, son? I thought you'd be doing Melo-lite stuff by now
I forgot, was Bud in the league in JVG's last season with us? If so, I would expect players who've been under JVG once in their life to play at least decent defense. Now if he can use his hops and spiking ability to block shots from the weak side...
