I thought this bit from Feigen's game story was interesting. Glad the team responded with a win.

It may also explain the shortened rotation for the night-- coaches pretty much went with the returning rotation guys from last year's team (the only difference is Sammy D replacing Hayes). When coaches really want to win, the tendency is to go with the combinations that's worked before rather than experiment with new stuff.

BTW, here are a couple of secret photos from the afternoon critique session:

Glad to see they were as mad as I was with the defense from the other night. A little 'motivation' always gets that blood flowing, I'm sure McHale knows how to deliver it.

I almost wished the Rockets would have lost the game out of spite.
I foresee a Kuester-Detroit type altercation if McHale doesn't lighten up.

why would you want that? that's poisionous attitude crap. our team is HOPELESS if it gets to that. I think it's totally fine for a coach to dig into the team a bit. No need for this coddling self-esteem, "you're so great!" stuff. You make mistakes, you need to hear about it, especially if its of the kind relating to effort.

Wat. Why? Because they were told how to do their job better?

I don't see what's wrong with what McHale did.

I love it when coaches are harsh and straight to the point. They have the say, so players should listen.

Otherwise, you get ego-est problems like Lebron, where Mike Brown baby sits him at the expense of the team.

That being said, his only decision that I'm not on board with is letting Morris ride the pine. T-Will had his chance, now it's Morris' turn. Otherwise, McHale is doing great in my book.

They won. The only guy who isn't happy is T-Will because he didn't get to play.

Really? I don't think so, the problem with Kuester is nobody know who he is, yet he bossed around a veteran Detroit team that already won a ring. Mchale is known as one of the best big man ever, and he has a ring to prove it. Nobody on the roster will Mchale is full of it, since he's been enjoying success since before any of these guys were born.

And honestly, from a player's perspective its important to let the players have it after an awful loss, this shows to the players that you care about winning and losing, and are not tanking just to get a high pick. Its also important that that Mchale's team tells the entire team what it that they did wrong, not just saying "you suck" and leave it at that. Certainly I think this way better than Rick the ruler's death-stare-from-hell and then doghouse approach.

I think yesterday was a must-win game for Mchale and his team. I guess they really got mad because of the defensive lapses and were determined to close out the b2b2b with a bang. MM, T-will, Dragic and Lee's PT got cut cause he played the starter 40 mins, in a normal game Mchale wouldn't do it like that

Nah. McHale is a very likable guy and his past players love and swear by him. Anyone that has a problem with him now is likely being called out for not putting forth a full effort, in which case they should not be playing or on the team anyway.

What spite?, the only person that's pissed off is TWill and nobody cares about what he thinks or feels.
