    he is a corner who...

    1. only plays the man not the ball,
    2. can't track a ball in the air,
    3. has no speed,
    4. has no cover corner instincts,
    5. and was a 1st round draft pick.

well they did get Joseph and Manning...hard to complain that they didn't do even more to improve the secondary

I didn't understand making Quinn a safety over Jackson since he is a way better corner. I think Joseph + Quinn at the corners is solid enough.

But now Quinn is a safety and doing well so maybe you don't move him back and, yes, I say getting a known, solid cb to play with Joseph is a must. Kareem is slightly better, not a lot. What is funny is that he is always the starter, plays for a little while, does one or a few terrible/stupid things, then Allen replaces him for a while and is almost always noticeably better (but not great) and then Kareem will get put back out and leave his side exposed while covering the best receiver or what have you. Allen makes plenty of mistakes but he is also fatser and way more of a ballhawk. It is pretty amazing that he has so many picks with so little minutes. Picks aren't everything but they help.

Honestly I feel like there has been more improvement with McCain than Jackson. McCain is just more limited size-wise but he has not gotten burned nearly as much as last year and has often made good plays.

Give me a new cornerback, please, and then let there be a fair (Texans have no history of fair competition when dealing with low draft or no draft players over first rounders) competition among Allen, Jackson, and McCain for nickel, dime, etc.

Kubiak likes riding a lame horse as long as he can get away with it - ask Jacoby, Okoye, or Slaton.

Jackson's improved some...but he looks a lot better than he is thanks to a rabid dog pass rush and 3 strong partners in the secondary instead of "wait for me" Wilson and "hit first" Pollard.

I have zero hope for the team looking for a new CB this offseason, not after they drafted a pair (prospects dim) and are rotating in Allen and McCain. Wade Phillips got his big splurge for personnel, they aren't going to have another the bolster what's already a top 3 defense in the NFL.

Personally, I wanted a Nolan-Manning tandem behind Joseph-Quin. But we'll see. I've got more faith in Phillips making honest evaluations than Kubiak.

Not sure I'd rather have him out there or Jason "10 Yard Cushion" Allen. At least Allen makes plays on the ball when he happens to be close enough to the receiver.

Whichever one of them is starting will be picked on repeatedly come playoff time. Sad thing is that everyone knows this yet we'll be helpless to prevent it :(

KJ HAS changed positions several times throughout his football career....RB, CB, etc.
A move up to 200 or so would most likely be in order.

I had kinda dismissed it of late though considering his improved play/upside at a position that is tough to fill... Jackson could quite possibly be a playmaking safety but is already a solid nickel CB (as per The Real Shady) and getting better. Down the road, I could see moving him .....He DOES have the experience of being thrown to the wolves last year and now integrated into a scheme by Wade. All this and only 23 with a very nice pedigree....

They should have done it 3-4 games into last year ......at the latest.

Now, I'm not so sure Kareem and the gang can't handle the other side.

    Agreed.

A little deference from the refs when your getting thrown at all the time (with Joseph on the other side) never hurts.

What the **** are you guys talking about? He's easily the worst player on the team considering where he was drafted.

Hey what's all this hate for Jackson? Anyways there is a man named Brandon Harris that will play next year and should make an impact kinda like Tate.;)

Exactly. Cant believe you are the first to mention this. His ball recognition is awful. He won't even turn when his WR is in the back of the end zone

Draft position has nothing whatsoever to do with the quality of a player. It *might* have a little to do with his value, considering the paycheck. But the only valid criteria for determining a the quality of a player on the field is what he does on the field. It's not KJ's fault numbnuts drafted him in the first round even though everyone in the nation knew he was slow and not known as a ball hawk.

    ...especially since he wasn't.

Let's hope. Tate looked sensational in the brief glimpse we got of him before he broke his ankle....Every secondary guy we drafted this April was disappointing in the preseason.

I'm still puzzled why they took Keo, a pure box safety after Phillips said he had no need for box safeties when cutting Pollard.

Harris and Carmichael couldn't mount much of a challenge for nickel or dimeback spots before the team shut them down. I've got much more hope for the young WRs we stashed away.

I was going to say this. The mistake of drafting him too high is done. He is a CB that needs deep help in man-to-man coverage.

msn ..... guess it's safe to assume your life would be better if we never had to look at Toast again, eh? :)

I DO hear where you're coming from as this was my position until recently. This organization has a history of being slow to react and make necessary moves. (with the exception of this offseason) Lord knows we've seen enough to be shell shocked beyond belief. Last year KJ would have been a senior at Bama and instead was left on an island when he should have been yanked early. That, among other things (Kubiak w/o Wade)) cost us what should have been a relatively easy playoff berth. Now, with that experience, the tutelage of Wade, and his natural progression .......there's improvement.....incremental? To my way of thinking, a bit more. He's made it to adequate IMO.

That'd be great for a safety or linebacker.

He's seen a good amount of action, but Manning's return has pushed him back to the bench.
